    Our Sapphire Safari

I was there back in September and had a good chat to old Bill. I didn't see Lee, but Simon was wandering around speccing sapphires from everywhere. I am impressed with the size of some of the Sapphires you got Chiron. Did they come from the tourist pile or out the back digging for yourselves?

    Divining rods for sapphire hunting

Thanks Dr Duck, it has been a while, real life gets in the way as I am sure you'd understand. The Ditherer and I are heading to Inverell next week for some Sapphire hunting, so hopefully have some videos to share at the end of it. I have been reading lots of posts during the interim, though...

    Divining rods for sapphire hunting

I believe that the best dowsing rods are made from the input feed wires of used Flux Capacitors.

Green (and gold?) perhaps one day!! Jewels first!

G'day Mate, Welcome to the forum and to the fossicking fraternity. Unfortunately you said you're heading up the Central Coast. There isn't a lot for gem & gold prospecting in that area. Unfortunately you have to go a little further afield. For gems you'd be well advised to start somewhere...

    Busy weekend

Good luck, sounds like a fine plan, especially the bit involving the 10 tins of Prospector Lubricant.

Gold Hog mats information and questions

G'day mate, The old Ditherer and I use Gold Hog matting in our Hogwash. The first thing I will say about it is that it dramatically cuts down on the amount of material you have to pan through in a cleanout. It is actually possible to see the gold in the matting while the highbanker is running...

    Billabong Blue Fossicking Park

G'day guys, The old Ditherer and I are heading up to BB in a couple of weekends time (taking a petrol jackhammer) and as we haven't been to BB before, all the information that regulars have on the site is ravenously consumed. If anyone has any worthwhile suggestions about whereabouts on the...

Ditherer and Son: Day Trip to the Turon River

Thanks for the comments guys, and I am flattered by any comparison to anything done by Rob Sitch. I know it wasn't a long video, nor was it awe inspiring with kilos of gold coming out of the box, but I try to make the sorts of videos that I would enjoy watching. I know that if I can't be out...

Ditherer and Son: Day Trip to the Turon River

I've finally finished editing together the trip to the Turon River down the Bridle Track from Hill End. This day trip was back in January of 2014, and we only had about 4 hours on the river in total before we had to drive back. The trip was really an excuse to check out the area and to test...

    Show us your Gemstones

Bunyip, thanks for sharing those great pics mate. The green sapphire is indeed very rare for the area or so I was lead to believe, I think I read somewhere about some instances being found toward Home Rule? The water worn nature of it sure looks like it's spent some time being washed around...

    Newbie to the forum

Welcome mate, the videos are fantastic for picking up tips on what to do and not to do. Enjoy the chance to spend some time with the young bloke.

    Porters Retreat/Black Springs fossicking

it's actually got my name on it, 'cos I dropped it there earlier. The name may have rubbed off by now, but that first big one you find - yeah, that was mine.... Welcome to the forum mate, you can find some gems in the posts in here that will keep your enthusiasm up for that next trip to find...

    a bit from the talgai

If it's coarse flat flakes then it hasn't moved far. I would be checking around the quartz layers looking for any specs in them. It's likely that it's come from somewhere close. Check in any cracks in any bedrock you find.

    Turon, Sofala NSW weather?

Was out there in April, had more water in than I expected as it had been dry puddles earlier when I was there in January

    Australian History

I began in 1866 and was called upon for the last time on the early morning of May 27th 1974 - the day after a particularly memorable east coast low. I was formed to save souls from drowning. I had a north and a south division, sitting astride what once was one of the most dangerous harbours in...
