I keep reopening this post, that is one seriously cool gothic coin

I have now put one on my bucket list :p

We couldn't find the date when first pulled out of the ground, only to realise the date was in Roman numerals, it's from 1877 :8

There were 682,292 coins struck in that particular year, 1851 is by far the rarest date. :)

Me too, definite BL item. I now feel like all my other Florins are insignicant compared to that one. :)

Yeah,... a bad case of all of us wishing now GP,.....Lucky wife, lucky life. :D :D :D :D

Back to the same location the Gothic Florin was found at, spent a long time gridding up the paddocks, finding only two coins amongst the lead and shot gun shells. A couple of nice buttons were picked up plus some sort of brass clasp/button. The large round object on the left of the main photo looks to be a belt buckle of some sort.

Though only two coins were found, they were nice ones - an 1875 Victorian penny, and my first shilling from the site, dated 1881. :)

Another needle in the haystack!

Nice coins GP,... I'm thinking that clasp is the type of thing the old girls used to wear on those ties around their necks(like in all the old movies) to hold them in place,.. the neck ties were probably to stop sunburnt necks and creepy crawlys getting to em I recon,.... the big question is, did she loose it or throw it I wonder(while she was out shooting for food maybe),... makes you think. :)

awesome finds. how are you liking the deus compared to the ctx? ill be buying a deus soon enough. looking forward toit

Have the Etrac, not CTX, though the Deus and Etrac are completely different machines when it comes to detecting. I haven't actually touched the Etrac as of late, probably mainly due to the weight factor, and that some recent sites required a detector with fairly good recovery speeds. :)

Yeah GP, that recovery speed does help out, it did make a big difference to my finds, you and Robert are cleaning up that's for sure,

keep up the good work,

Did a road trip today to scope out some new areas, didn't do any detecting so I headed out to my honey hole tonight for a relaxing detect. On this occasion I took both the Etrac and Deus out, though after 20 mins the Etrac ended up back in the boot of the car due to EMI, making it impossible to read any TID's, or pick out subtle tones from the chatter - things were made even worse after a noise cancel. On the Deus, the lower frequencies picked up too much EMI, so 17kHz was chosen being the quietest frequency, using a Full-tones program (near perfectly quiet).

It appears this area hadn't seen too much activity in the past, possibly due to the EMI. Either way, I cleaned up with another full house, with the florin coming later in the evening to top off the full set. The pre-decs aren't that deep here and the soil is quite sandy, so extraction is pretty easy. Just a matter of how much ground you can cover in one session before nodding off. :D

For the coppers we had 1958, 1956, 1952, 1951, 1948 x 2, 1943 x2 pennies, 1954, 1951, 1946 & 1943 hp's.

Silvers included 1955 3p, 1962, 1942, 1946 6p, 1917 Shilling, & 1962 Florin.

All of the jewellery is junk aside from the small silver pin which used to have something hung under it, need to clean it up to read the letters on the front face.

Everything - nasty broken glass!

Blast from the past - I remember owning a Leed lemonade Yo-yo at some stage in the late 70's/early 80's. :)

I thought you would like that, probably my favourite part of the detect is sorting out the finds and dating/researching stuff. The finds bag was rather heavy after that session, no thanks to some heavy chunks of lead found around the place. The 1917 shilling is a bit out of place, must have been dropped by a traveller considering the town is only from the 50's era. :)
