looks like it was a good hunt Phase Tech, a good enough rubbish to goodies ratio to keep you motivated and on your toes, and at least the only pre dec was a silver shilling(that's always good),..you did better than me on the silver value today(I only got 3/4s of that value),...good photos, and the platapus is a beauty(I've not found one before).

Let's hope your Nans place comes up with the goods for you HH,..even if you do it a few different times with different settings each time,...as you get rid of the noisy top targets you might hear some of those quiet little scratchy ones(deeper old silver),...don't forget to have a nice meal with your nan, and maybe mow the lawn for her as well so she gets something out of the deal for herself too,...take time out to sit down and have a long chat with her about the good old days and see if she doesn't have a few gems of her own in the way of leads to good future detecting places,...when she sees you get happy about finding a few old coins she may even remember that she has a few old ones tucked away somewhere, and that you would be a good choice for the job of looking after them from now on.
good luck,..and search hard.
silver.

Love seeing what you have found, I am going to have a look at my Nans place some time soon, she has a very old house in the dead centre of Ipswich CBD.

Love the capgun as well, in great condition too, well done!

My first hunt for 2015. Hit two sites for about an hour each. Only 1 goldie, and one pre-dec, but had a ball. Lots of interesting bits of jewellery.
The ring is just a junker, but the teardrop item is gold plated I think. I was using the CTX3030 and coiltek 10x5 coil. It continues to impress with how hard it hits some of the smaller items.

and finally what I think is an ancient lead battery terminal, complete with screw on lead top to hold the wire on the post(I could be wrong though).

1420567354_sam_8013.jpg

Please excuse the photos this time as I'm tired and certainly not qualified to operate a camera(yet).
The one thing I'm grateful for is the lovely soft ground,...it's like digging into butter (or marshmallows).

Shhh,....still pushing here for a new camera from Mrs Silver(ha).

Silver, the fotos you took look good to me.
I reckon you're right about the battery terminal. No doubt there's someone here who can ID it.

A bit of good news concerning my ability to underwater detect again,...mate came over and we stripped the old tape off it(my old detector) and removed the wooden brace that was trying to keep it still and quiet(taped in place),..sprayed a bit of CRC into where the lead enters the coil(it's sealed in there anyway) thought it was all loose in there, but, on air testing it seemed to do a lot better than all the noisy c#@p it used to produce constantly, so, we readjusted the leads so that they were tight and tidy and, wow,...no noises at all, so, we taped it all up nice and it now works perfectly after having sat there for about 3 years doing nothing at all because I thought it was a stuffed piece of c#@p detector, when in actual fact it just needed two people with a spare twenty minutes each to have it up and running great again,...same old procrastination story that happens over and over, leave something sit for years because you think its a big job, when in reality it was an easy fix that took no time at all and was very cheap to accomplish.
here's a couple of photos of my dark love.
1420598162_sam_8033.jpg

this bit was all chunky before with a piece of timber in under the tape to hold the lead strait and steady(I don't think it did its job at all)
1420598162_sam_8034.jpg

That's it's brand(ha)
UNDERWATER METAL DETECTOR.
1420598163_sam_8035.jpg

Well, at least I could use it to dive down to 30 metres depth,...all I need now is an Aqua Lung and the appropriate scuba gear.

good work :)
I am in the opposite position, have the diving gear and skill just have a detector that is useless for it's intended purpose underwater.

I used to go up to my neck with this one and some times I'd go snorkelling with it in the same depth, found heaps of good stuff with it, although, in hindsight I think I should of had the discriminator turned off totally and just dug everything out there, I probably would have found lots more,..especially all the gold I would have missed( like, totally).

Well today I was hunting something a bit different,...Mangoes.
Even though I was doing that I still have a view to negotiate with the fellow to see if I can detect a bit of his property,...I'll start by seeing if I can remove any lead contamination from under the old(and big) mangoe tree, and go on from there after that(I still haven't met this fellow,..only negotiated through his son in law, whom I've also never met, and I've only ever spoke to him on the phone as well).
And I left the alcohol inside the gate(as it was early),...amazing what you can achieve without actualy meeting anybody in person(must admit I have kissed the blarney stone when a young fellow though).
So anyway I went out this morning and swapped the alcohol for mangoes(all the mangoes I've gotten this season are the Bowen variety,...nothing but the best).
If only I'd a thought a head and had home brew ready to swap(darn)
we were up at 4:30am and home by 6:30am.
My two boys are now exboxing till it's time to dry and wrap the mangoes for ripening.
the Mrs is still in bed(not mine)
1420838861_images116iw103.jpg

the mangoes are soaking in the tub for 1/2 hour to get the sap off
1420839621_sam_8168.jpg

Here is a box(1 of 2) wrapped and ripening(almost ready) for eating and freezing,..nothing like eating ripe mangoe freshly thawed in june(these are not the ones in the tub).
1420839770_sam_8166.jpg

they may not look as good as the ones in the shop that cost $20 a tray,...but they taste just as good(if not nicer) and my tray is twice as big($40 worth),..and I will now have at least six of them ripening up after we finish wrapping this lot.
Son says we should make mango wine(and I totally agree) in the demijohn.
and the good thing is it only cost time and $20 worth of alcohol.
And did I mention that I've already(just lately) passed around another three of these super large trays amongst family and friends.
And the best thing of all is,.....I'm doing this with my two boys(urban adventure) and that in itself is priceless(they are great lads).

Just a small park hunt,...the kind where you decide to look because you were waiting there for someone anyway.
I threw the two half pennies in CLR just long enough to clean them strait away with a small paint brush, the 1914 was first and the 1929 cleaned second(same time for both). Well the CLR certainly ripped at the 1929,..only reason I can think of is that either they are both different percentages of copper,..or,.. as they were both only 1 foot apart and I'm assuming that they were a coin spill the 1914 was in circulation much longer and there fore had a greater coating of natural oils and greases(from handling) that gave it a better ground preservation, thus enabling it to handle the CLR to a greater degree,..I must admit that the 1929 did look toastier than th 1914 before immersion.,(one at a time,..same fluid).
All.

1421045496_sam_8252.jpg

And it's all worth nothing but time and the hunting of it.

I ended up in the water the other day with my diving detector and scored a couple of dollars for my troubles
Photo story.
Wishing the lump was a part of a flintlock, but, ha,..I'll have to wait for the molasses .

Was a good splash around TM,....and the upside after every outing will be that I'm still alive(not eaten by a Noahs Ark at least)to write about it(hopefully).

Not a bad start in the drink. Quite the adventerous side of detecting. And worth a shot

Yesterdays search at an old spot that I frequent on occasion.

1421290797_sam_8461.jpg

funny how if your not on the silver coins you can revert to finding5s and 10s etc in order to find a gold ring instead(that's still coming "one day" ).

1421290839_sam_8476.jpg

The old badge has seen better days, but it would have looked stunning when new and being worn with pride. I'd say the loss may have caused a bit of grief to someone as that sort of stuff would have been used year after year by different people back then, and would have had to be handed in at the end of the school year.

just a quick beach park.
1421324701_sam_8458.jpg

for $3.80 in 10 minutes(bit extra for that ring in twenty)

Only posting clump photos at the moment as I'm about to run out of internet soon(might have to hit an Internet caf then).
1421629596_sam_8531.jpg

I was happy(got my silver) to get a 1926 3d.

nice mate. i saw a clip on the ace250. it goes deep but not very accurate. Im just thinking if i should upgrade my garret at gold. to something that can go a few inches deeper on three pence (as they are the smaller size) Garrett at gold only goes a few inches on a 3 pence

I'd of thought it would be better at finding them then the ACE,...mind you I crank it up to full sensitivity if there is no interference at that level.
