On this day in 1889, Sir Henry Parkes GCMG (1815-1896), delivered the famous Tenterfield Oration, effectively starting the Federation process in Australia. It was near the end of his political career that he made this speech which earned him the title of Father of Federation. He was also 5 times Premier of NSW.

He was a wonderful actor and stared in so many great movies, my favourite was the 1970 movie A Man Called Horse, the scene where he was hanging from ropes attached to Eagles talons stuck through his breasts was amazing at the time.
