New to the forum. Need help to identify a rock I found please.

Hello,

Apologies if this is posted in the wrong place.

I live in the hills outside of Perth, where is is a lot of red dirt and pea gravel. I found this rock sitting on the surface and it was unlike any others in the area.

It is very heavy.

Keen to know if anyone knows what kind of rock it may be?

Bitumenised gravel...... case may be solved ?

If you place it outside on the cement in the hot sun for 1/2 an hour, then try poking it with a stick to see if it softens up. If not it may well be something else . :Y:

Actually, I think it's lateritic ironstone, but I'm no geo.

My guess- Ironstone

pisolitic (lateritic) ironstone would be my guess....
