Hi there, I am new to detecting my partner has lost a gold ring on aucklands piha beach, its a New Zealand west coast black iron sand beach. just doing some research before I buy a detector.
I am leaning towards a garret 250 I hope it will be able to cope with iron sand.
we know where the ring was lost and I had my GPS so we have that waypoint saved but we tried with my fathers no-brand detector and got nothing except tinfoil.

Black sand will usually beat all but the best detector you may need an expensive one to find it try contacting this detecorist and see if he can help or recommend someone that will

As duck mentioned its probably worth hiring someone with the right tool for the job. Otherwise you might find yourself even more than out of pocket than you are now.
