Big crash alright, nearly went over the wall, a few marshal were meant to have been hurt as well, probably from flying debris, can see them all jump out of the way when the car took out the marshal stand. Broken left leg above the knee & broken wrist for chaz, meant to be able to see his left leg break from the in car camera view when it hits the gear shift but a bit hard to tell.
I'm a Holden fan so like to see the Fords crash but never like to see any of the drivers injured, no matter what they drive.
Hope he recovers alright, hope James Courtney recovers soon as well, still injured from when the helicopter blew that sign into him in pit lane.

In both of these crashes it is evident how poorly the V8 Supercar design protects the drivers in a major crash. Both drivers were left exposed as their cars disintegrated around them.

The doors flying open/off illustrates that safety is not taken seriously enough in this category. NASCAR pileups typically happen at higher speeds than this and their vehicles end up severely crumpled, but not shredded like V8 Supercars.

Good point grubstake.

Also the gearshift lever that broke the leg during the Ford crash sits very close to the drivers left leg since the seat position in the supercar is near the centre of the cabin.

Therefore I believe the seat needs a winglet near the end of the seat, similar to ones that wrap around near the head of the driver as well as the one near their shoulders, to protect the leg slamming into the gear lever.

totally different impact to a NASCAR crash, if that's poorly built it still done its job.

no car will take that kind of punishment and keep all its panels or wheels, the cages in those cars are the best in the world.

however the seat could do with some leg restraints, not sure if the shifter or the side of the seat broke his leg but at that speed the impact will smash anything.
