    Mudgee NSW old reservoir

The deactivated and drained old reservoir contains a nice bush walk and bike track as I discovered recently. There are many old rivulets and feeds into what is now a dry clay pan. And I can't help but think of the lots of gold bits that must have been sluiced down the hill over the years...

    shallow depth scuba in rivers

So one of my other interests is diving...walking up the Turon river recently I thought to come back in the warmer weather with a wetty and diving gear. Surely this must be a good way to get in among the bedrock crevices? I've not heard anyone doing the same thing so thought to see if anyone's...

    military junk

A few bits of junk from an old Army training ground in Sydney. The coagulated lump is a buckle and the dangly things are radio/electronics dust caps. Most impressive is the 55 gram lead projectile - sure wouldn't want to be on the wrong end of that!

NSW Turon Gates/River - pls explain "Chinese" raceway walls

Turon Gates property has drystone walls running alongside and higher than the river. The property owner says they were built by the Chinese miners in the 1850s to carry water. But for what? I walked and follwed the line of wall for 5=KLMs and it must have taken a whole lot of $ to build. So why...

Satellite phones & networks + GPS Devices

After severe pesterings fro the Minister for War and Finance about me going bush with no comms I bought an InmarSat "Satphone 2" on a pre paid basis. It's $1,000 with some credits thrown in but I reckon it will pay off in reduced resistance to my wanderings. One neat feature is you can send it...

I was in the UK last week and visited old disused Lead/Silver Mines around Derbyshire....in one of the museums was an interesting story on the term "Nicked" or stolen. The story goes that in the heyday of Lead Mining when demand was high for the Lead, the Guild of Miners directed that every...
