looking good dave
I used Borax for the flux, and getting the 6 rods upto welding heat was a bit of a challenge, but a bit of experimenting got it up to welding heat and it actually worked

You can see in the picture the rods are all together as one now

forge welded 6 rods into one on each end

getting 2 rods at a time upto welding heat was reasonably easy to forge the ends of them together.
just a tack weld on the very ends first to hold them in place, the rest was some heat and borax and tapping them with the hammer when at the right heat.

These tongs are for Blacksmiths to hold hot metal while forging shapes into hot metal ;)

Today I made up the next set of Bolt jaw tongs today, I made these to hold 20mm round steel (stock) (Dog Spikes) 😁 until I get a set of Railway spike tongs made up

they seem to hold the round stock very well and will be good to hold all the bigger round stock

compare the two sets of tongs one holds 6mm round the new set hold 20mm round

I made a scroll jig this morning, made from 40x10 flat bar and this will make forming scrolls from say 20x5 flat bar much easier now.

I might even put it to the test and make another trivet.

Dave, Has me a bit baffled how you will roll flat bar around your jig?

it works, the center bit of the jig is higher and you start the scroll on your bit of flat bar (heating and hammering a small tight scroll) and it hook into the very center of the jig, the flat bar is heated red hot in sections at a time and progressively work your way around.

Once you get past about the first 360 degrees of turn, the flat bar that your working on fits right down into the jig and just keep heating and going around

todays trivet it has very tight scrolls in the center

compared the the first one I made free hand

a screen shot of a youtube video making a trivet and using the scroll jig, I need to have a jig with wider circles like this one to get the trivet to turn out more like my first one
