Ewan MacColl did a great deal to save the English folk tradition from
dwindling. Fishing in the North Sea off the eastern UK was a very
hard job which gave no quarter and killed many. The UK working class
had it tough - MacColl understood this. He wrote this song in 1960 to
honour those men.
