Yes & a lot more coming later in the year too.
For a state with few public fossicking areas they sure do embrace these events.

Winter and Spring are most of QLD's events cause everyone is up here then. Down south are usually Summer events..... When you look at the Gem events listed on some Club sites , Combine them all cause not all Events are listed on the one site , you will notice a pattern... You can travel Australia and Do the Big 'Event' tour... Some Clubs like to have events out of normal and some are very successful , while Others Fail....

There is a 'Push' to declare some New areas, But most are done over...
They declared a 'New' area at Clermont several years ago... Only thing is, Everyone jumped the fence and went into this 'New' area BEFORE it was a 'New' area and now its pretty much a dud..... Bit slow our Government when it comes to Fossicking/Prospecting... Yet they 'Promote' it on their Web-sites... Sorry for the Political bit.

I reckon that's actually a pretty fair statement for all of the Eastern States (and the bottom one in the middle).
