I've noticed in the last six months some of minelab detectors have been going up now i got notified that there going up again mmmmmm few year ago i was interconnected with the industry and got told how much it cost to build a detector and how much minelab mark up is (u b astonished) no doubt they have r and d and overheads but why they do r and d on low end metal detectors and realease them , once u build something and put it on the market for 12 mths they should able to buy parts in bulk and bring there cost down like tv etc garret went down this avenue and i stepped away from this brand go on minelab keep raising your price and i do the same

Any idea of when? Im looking at the sdc2300 and planning on buying in a couple of weeks. If they go up, what other brand would people recommend that would be equivalent? Or still get the sdc?
Cheers
Adrian

The cost of the actual components themselves for the amount they manufacture compared to the RRP would be surprising, but so would be a lot of other electronic devices, cough Iphones cough.
Minelab gain little to nothing after the sale of their products, not much of a constant income this way, hence a large markup is required as overheads to pay for the constant R&D and the support they offer.
I still don't like them raising the prices, it feels crappy no matter how small of an increase they make, kinda like if a car company decided to raise the price of an older model years after release, but they gotta make ends meet somehow.

have a read

Nothing ever stays the same, was bound to happen so all we need to do now is get used to it. The positive is late model 2nd hand units will hold their value for a while yet :Y: :) not that I'm selling. As for the competitors prices it doesn't matter Minelab are doing it for their own reasons I'm sure.

Just a case of a business doing what it needs to.

Unfortunately it has do with the increase in costs from changing of parts supplier. Something like that. It happens.
Makes sense. They had a good deal, something happened. Now it costs more to build.

re, demise of the 45000
seems a bit odd/strange that Minelab will only have the 2 high end/high price gold detectors, the 5000 & 7000, & a much lower price specialist small gold machine the SDC 2300, with nothing in the middle!
I doubt that 100% of potential 4500 buyers will automatically go up the ladder for a 5000. 50% at best I reckon.
So what are the other 50 odd % of 4500 buyers going to do? jump ship? where to?
what other PI units on the market are the equivalent in price AND performance of the 4500?!
Garrett & Whites ?
.
edit, I see sales of the QED potentially rising

Maybe they are better off selling them in the states for US dollars especially if there is demand there rather than here in Aussie dollars. It would make good business sense to do so atm.

Minelab are discontinuing the 4500 as they have conceded that the QED has won this market. :playful:

That's not good news I guess the 5000 will fill this gap. I was sure the SDC had already gone up in price

that what I thought sdc sat around 3450 mark then went to 3700 mark then more again mmmmmm o wait lets go and spend millions on r and d on another coin machine namely vanquish ??? bit weird when they cant even get there top end machines perfect !!!

SDC was RRP $3995 when it first came out.
Last one I bought new was $3400 with every possible accessory included in the deal.
My advice get to know your dealer & never pay RRP :Y:

P.s. the GPX4500 was discontinued years ago then re-released. It was never going to be a permanent release & an end date was always going to happen again. Don't read too much into it ;)

This sorta stuff is cheaper still

In fact.... make your own at cost

found this quote on the web too

I know very well that many scientists consider dowsing as they do astrology, as a type of ancient superstition. According to my conviction this is, however, unjustified. The dowsing rod is a simple instrument which shows the reaction of the human nervous system to certain factors which are unknown to us at this time. Albert Einstein

Now old Albert musta known a thing or two working in that patent office like he did... expanding his mind and such to the point that he could orchistrate a composium of other peoples ideas in such ways that he eventually supervolved his intellect to think creativly well past the norm in a realistic way that pushed through and past even the fiction of his day and age (even some from our age we just don't see that far ahead from our everyday life view yet)
Any way.... use your intelect and play :p the cheapest way (if your not finding gold now... what difference will it make :p )

Have been watching a new SDC2300 on ebay for the wife, the detector was listed at $3730.00 at 2pm this afternoon with a 5% discount, just went in to have another look at 6pm and it is now at $4035.00 still with the 5% discount, so that is about the end of that, will wait and see what happens with the rest of them at the old price, looks like we will still have to share for a while. :N: :N: :N:

Some stores offer finance options so you can pay it off weekly/fortnightly -- if that's an option for you? I paid half of mine on Humm (used to be Oxipay) and the rest in cash. Worth checking out different suppliers to see what finance options they offer. :Y:
