I'm from Singapore, on holiday in Australia for a couple of weeks. So, I got to slatey creek in creswick, and its totally dry. Wrong timing, sadly.

Anyway, I randomly dug a hole, and starting panning with what water I have. Children enjoys it and got a few tiny tiny flakes.

Are there places thereabouts Creswick, or Bright, which are suitable for panning at this time of year? Vehicle is 2wd. We will be driving around VIC, and NSW, and end up at Melbourne, airport for flight back.

We are absolute beginners at this.

I saw an advert in the forum for guided gold panning for $5 per person, but it looks like the PM feature is not available till I get 10 posts. Any other way I can get in touch other than via PM ?

Is equipment rental available if we want to go beyond using a pan ?

I do some beach detecting with a minelab sovereign back home. Would a sdc2300 be good for creeks ?

If you're heading towards Bright there are a few places to try. Search the forums for Reedy Creek which is near Beechworth. You could try the Buckland River on the way to Bright and the Bright Visitor Information Centre might be able to help as I've bought some prospecting books from there in the past.

Coiltek Gold Centre in Maryborough hire detectors.

As do E,E Day & sons in Ballarat.

Thanks, I got a couple of turbo pans from E E Day & Sons. I was interested in getting a sluice, but ran out of space in the car.

I have a plastic toboggan in the car, and rubber floor mats. Wondering if it will work as a sluice. Hah!

I'm currently staying around an hour or two from Reedy Creek. Do you know if there's Telstra phone signal around Reedy Creek? Thinking of camping there.

Thanks for the welcome.

I'm not seeing an EMAIL button. Probably disabled till I reach 10 post count ?

Thats correct gb8, not till 10 posts :)

Welcome to the forum mate! Dry creeks can hold the best gold sometimes, you just have to know how to work it withought water ;) toboggan and floor mat 'may' work ;) worth a try if its all you have. If it catches lead or some other heavy, it will catch mabey not all, but some gold.

Hey gb8

Phone signal around Reedy Creek can be a little patchy but there is usually a signal, I used to live on Reedy Creek at Wooragee and had to go to the southern end of the house to get a good signal.

I'm not sure if anyone has mentioned it but there are some places which are no go areas around that part of the world ie Woolshed Falls. There's a guy at the Beechworth Info centre, I think he is a prospector, if not he has great information on prospecting in the area, my memory is fading but I think his name was Rob or Bob but don't quote me.

Good luck
Bazz

I managed to get to Reedy Creek yesterday, for 2 hours. Having running water makes things alot easier!

The green Garret Super Sluice pan might be worth a look, we got one recently & for someone new to panning with virtually no experience like myself, they seem easy enough to use. I heard the turbo pans can be a bit tricky & take some getting used too but if you have experience then you will be right.
