The beaches really suck lately, I've been down to Robe all weekend for a relax, same story, mounded sand and seaweed everywhere. Still found a few targets in the dry sand, but not overly productive. :|

Greetings fellow coin shooters - yes I am back after a little rest ... I went out by myself tonight and what a beautiful night it is! No jacket and I'm sitting outside writing this and it's still 16 degrees out - a bit of a heat wave! Well ... I had an average night and here are the finds ...

Got a bit of everything tonight - everything but gold that is! Let's start off with a Made in England spoon, couple of sinkers, a couple more lead toys, a dragon, a headless horseman and also the head of another horse, and what I thought was a ring but on closer inspection an end of a pipe.

Coin wise - 10 coins - 4 pre dec - 2 x penny 1 x half penny 1x 1917 Shilling - a .20, 2x .10, 1 x .05 and a couple of brown buggers plus the usual junk.

Well at least I got one silver - #88 silver coin this year for me ... 12 more to go and 4 months left - should get there I reckon!

It's been a quiet week full stop, glad to see you guys are back on deck producing the goods. Maybe I should have gone back to the beach tonight vs digging lots of brown buggars in new areas.

The lead toys are pretty cool, you must have a bit of a collection by now, and the spoon, well what can I say. :D

Team Bogan returns from another Saturday night hunt in the warmer spring like weather and here is the haul ...

It's Bloody amazing what h you guys get on those beaches. Something different all the time.

hi, do you go at night by yourself alot?

Hi Kirk - Team Bogan comprises of myself and SA Bogan (my son) so more times than not we are hunting in pairs - but Bogan works a few night shifts so then I would go on my own. Since May and the start of winter - we noticed the low tides at night were superior to the day - so I gave it a go and LOVED IT! Anyone who goes beach detecting regularly will tell you the worst part of the experience is other beach goers - kids, dog walkers, joggers, older folks, bike riders, swimmers, council workers, shell collectors, sun bathers, etc, etc ... At night you might see one of those groups in the late evening but by early morning (after midnight) not a soul is around - and you have the whole place to yourself... And the best thing is the Mrs is sleeping and has no idea how long I've been out - and doesn't care - during the day I am sure there are home duties I would be held responsible for but at night we usually just watch the boob tube so it is open slather for detecting! ;)

Bogan and I were chatting about that yesterday ... The difference between the beach and park hunts is similar to fishing in a pond versus the ocean - the pond is finite - whatever is in there is all that is going to be there - unless the pond is restocked regularly (busy park) eventually it will be fished out ... The ocean on the other hand is constantly changing - the tides bring new targets every 12 hours - and takes some away too - but folks constantly deposit new targets too and in the summer that deposit rate goes high sky... Some folk like fishing at trout farms but I would rather like the chance of a big fish (diamond ring) - rarely finding one but when we do it makes it all worth while ... Just a couple of weekends ago we hit gold four nights in a row which I do not see park hunters doing with any regularity ... ;)

haha, yea during the day is hard with all the questions, and dagger stares you get. some people really dont like it, i see it as a service, we clean crap off the beach, and sometimes get paid. im keen to do a night but the wife is worried someone will knock me off, haha

I love the comparison and understand now why I'll be hard pressed to take bragging rights with my two mates who detect regularly on the beaches. They do quite well and as you point out things are always changing. I am truly fascinated by the beach hunters. Half your luck mate, keep hitting those fantastic finds.

Yeah, they're funny like that . My wife wouldn't even let me go out night fishing in my boat. 8.(

I can understand not allowing night fishing at sea ... It is a little dangerous ... But detecting on the beach? I haven't run into the boogie man yet, and I'm sure the few people I see are just as weary of me as I am of them (wielding a big metal shovel might have something to do with that) ... Can't live in a bubble Kirk ... If something is going to happen ... It's going to happen but I am not letting me worry about it to the point it stops me enjoying myself ... You can get killed crossing the road and really when you think about it ... The misguided youth and thugs have better things to do than hang out at the beach in he middle of winter ... Come to think of it so do 99.999 percent of the population - it's just those weirdos looking for gold on the beach that are wandering around all night! ;)

Adelaide beaches don't seem to be too bad at night, never really come across any trouble, mainly inquisitive people wondering what the heck I am doing.

The Bogan boys have got their beach detecting down pat, and their finds are testament to that. ;)

Team Bogan ventured out tonight ... And got wet without entering the sea ... Yes a winter rainstorm stopped the hunt but we weren't doing very well tonight anyway so we left before low tide :(

Here are the finds ...

Yup ... Hard to find anything to discuss but on my very first target the GT snafu'ed a florin

Should clean up nicely after an electrolysis bath... 1953 but the poor ten cent piece looks worse for wear ...

A bit of a tease after getting the florin in the first three minutes and then nothing for the rest of the hunt ... Sometimes it goes that way... No spoons tonight ... And no gold :(

But did we have fun? You don't even have to ask! :D

That Florin looks brilliant considering the corrosive environment it has been sitting in, still very good detail on it.

Looking forward to seeing it cleaned up. :)

You guys probably get away with that a bit easier as women see it as healthy father son bonding time that you will never get again once your time on the orb is done, so they tend to overlook an awful lot of things in those type of circumstances when normally on an average day they may simmer over it a bit a few times until eventually something boils over and the clean-up work has to begin. So I guess what I'm saying is," Enjoy that wonderful bonding time, and score well while having fun together because it means a lot to everyone ! ", as it helps give hope to all men.

Yes silver - detecting with your son does open some doors that were previously closed ... I am sure if Bogan was not my son the Mrs would be giving me a much harder time taking off in the night to detect ... and I think Bogan's fiancee has less to say when he says "going detecting with Dad" than when he goes alone or out with friends ... come to think of it ... I learned this early on in life when Bogan was a little tacker and I was a keen fisherman wanting to go off for the weekend ... if I took the kids I was ok to go - on my own or with mates and I got the third degree. I am unsure if I said "bonding session" that the Mrs would go for that though ... after all we have been bonding for 28 years! :p

I will also say that it is fantastic to have another person to talk detecting with on a daily basis ... one mention of detecting to the ladies and the eyes glass over quickly before they disappear with something more important to do! We always have something to talk about and many times it is what we see and read on the forum that gets the discussion going. Also great to have someone to bounce ideas off of when at the beach and working out the hunting strategy for the night. If you have a kid - put a detector in their hands and you will definitely wont be sorry ... (except when they find all the gold before you can walk across it!) ;)
