Hi guys. Sorry late getting back. Let my recent phone plan expire so sorry for the late reply. Will try to answer all.
Leads wise I am a scrub mongrel area bush hound pig dog. There is no where in my detecting life anything lives more than 6 nths. Ever.
I crash, bash, bang through anything in my way. So im just about done with leads even those like I have now have minimal show.
Ok, have been on a friends comp, and have seen some low latency transmitters and head phones. Few I have bookmarked.
Stay tuned as I went through my cupboarb and dug out 10 earbud phones that came with radios and phones over the past 10 yrs. 7 were dull utter crap. But 3 absolutely shocked me with crisp loud audio! This was at home I will admit but damn, they are sharp! I am going to try them tommorow in field. 2 of them I am pretty sure what they came with. 1 I am sure of.
I am testing them tomorrow against my last Koss on gold. May be that in field they are rubbish, been there done that many times. But if they stack up. :D

I have a Whites TDI SL not a ML, but I have a set of ML Koss UR30 (100 Ohm) and a set of Sunray Pro Gold (150 Ohm).

The Sunray is a better quality headset than the Koss (it should be for the price !) and the audio tone is nicer and a bit clearer but I have a set of earbuds that blow both of them away in terms of volume (read sensitivity). The barest whisper is MUCH more audible.

They are 320 Ohm ( not 32 ohm) and match the impedance of the SL much better. I got them off Ebay and ruggedized them using a cord wrap and a coiled extension.

Have used them for 6m in lantana infested gullies and they hang together well. If they hook up it just pulls the 3.5mm connector to the coiled extension apart. Reconnect & carry on.

Hmm this post looks like an add for Ebay...whatever

not 32 Ohm)

I know the practicality of it would condemn the idea immediately, but it would be great to have several sets you could test side by side from the retailers to settle on the best type/s for your own hearing and machine.

I wouldnt go past my Garretts for winter coin shooting on my Fisher, but the are rubbish on the Nox.

The Nox stock phones are not bad, but the outer cushion on one side decided to pop off and after 10 mins of fiddling went back into the cupboard where they still sit.

The SS pair I had for the 35 and 45 were pretty good (but buds were better) but rubbish on the Fisher.

The stock Koss on the SDC were good sound, but a less than ideal fit and left too much background noise creep in.

So much variability, but I think good sound, and a good fit can make or break the day.

How do you think these earbuds would go with the GPX5000

Not sure how those earbuds would go on a GPX as I dont have one or access to one at the moment. Sorry.

I personally find it difficult to assess audio stuff on specs or others recommendations, no matter how much I try to incorporate both in my decisions. Too many personal preferences & differences in machines.

Everyone has their own hearing frequency response, tone preferences, area they detect ( traffic/ leaf litter/ desert...), climate(hot & humid, cool n dry...), head size...

I agree with OldGT that the ability to try other types would be great & if doing it in shop is not practical then as a suggestion, next time you are in a prospecting area campground/ caravan park (eg Clermont, Tiboobura, Leonora...) then a sundown campfire beer chat could result in a number of headsets being offered for you to try out on the spot.

I ve done that with picks, asked the question to just one of the crowd I didnt know and soon there were half a dozen picks being passed around and hefted by all. A bit like having PA forum topic responses in real life :)

Sorry been having connection issues.
Wow they sound good. My reason for smashing through the scrub is similar to your lantana reason. I hunt whipstick and mallee scrub here in Vic and why I have no option but to be a human bulldozer. I like those places as 99% turn away from it after 1/2 hr. Im gonna look those up. Thanks.
To Phasetech. I have been detecting since the minelab goldseeker 1500. Have tried them all. Mates tried your wireless and they are only 30 ohms and said they compared them to 100ohms and the 30 didnt even register on at least a 1/3 of faint targets located on 100ohms. Im well aware of the (your highlighted as telling a child) differences in Quality and Cheap (thanks for that condescending reply) but im after something actually better than that.

Dude..in the zillion years since Nenad's been around I have NEVER seen him treat anyone like a child or be condescending in his replies and I challenge anyone to show otherwise.
But in the 2 months that you've been here posting on the forum, I've seen you twice take offence to something written where none was given or implied.

Maybe some bubble wrap around those feelings of yours might help.

You are welcome to say that. But lets think in old school Tuna. A guy who I know that came into detecting after others had done so doing twice the time frame. Underlining words like they are talking to a child. Really bud. So let me get this right. You.... Would go up to a guy who had been detecting before you got out of nappies and hold your fingers up when talking to him like exclamation marks and say "This That'" I actually know him. Underlining words like that to anyone is condescending crap Tuna. You'd shrink if you met me! I saw much of your foul mouth crap directed at others on other forums bud so don't go acting all high and mighty little fish.

That is absolutely laughable.

Feel free to point me in the direction of where I've used foul mouth crap on other forums. No forum I know would put up with it.

Ahh yes....you got me there, Douglas and co lol technically I didn't use foul mouthed crap...I did a rude animated picture of him and his beloved dog :D So hang me.

None of this takes away from the fact that for someone so awesomely powerful grown men shrink in his presence, you get awfully offended and cut where no offence was present.

Explain the Zillion years. Sorry Nenad Tuna dragged you into this.
But what Tuna is a Zillion years in Pulse?
Did Nenad, again sorry mate Tuna instigated this, come in at the time of the Goldseeker 1500? Or the Gt 1600, perhaps the FT? Errr, maybe the 2000 which came years after me and my mates started Or perhaps do you mean by a Zillion the time of the 2100? Or the 2200? Inform us please on this Zillion time frame when you YOU know he came in on please!

Dude, actually YOU (underlined just for you) brought Nenad into it.

Nenad's post was professional just like he is.

For someone soooooo experienced and so enormously enormous grown men shrink when he nears...you know bugger all about head phones!...Nenad does!

You mate, are a toss pot!

hi All, was wondering if you could suggest some quality headphones or earphones - including any link or pictures would be great :Y:

Not wanting to utilise the koss ur30's don't like them

I have a pair of ss300s that really good, and they need replacing, thinking either the zx pros or the steephase ones.
Have not heard anything about the steel phase headphones, had a look, and man they are big.with a capital B!

If you want wireless, then check these out: http://phasetechnical.com.au/product/quest-wirefree-pro-headphones/

If your detector already has a wireless module (like GPZ or CTX3030), or you are plugging into a GPX battery on your back, these are great:
http://phasetechnical.com.au/product/steelphase-pro-series-headphones-300-ohm/

There is also leatherette style earpads to suit, which breath a bit better, considering summer is around the corner:

Cheers

I've been using Sennheiser headphones for ten years, the latest being 599's, and have been very happy with them,

Phil
