I was just wondering if anyone in Australia has ordered any of this companies trommels and if so what they thought of them. I was also curious if anyone thought aussie customs would let it into the country? Any thoughts? Have a look at them heckler fabrication

Thanks for your replies. :)

To my knowledge motorised Trommels are not permitted for recreational prospecting here in Australia. So why you may be able to get one into the country, unfortunately using it is another thing.

For Victoria

32. Can the holder of a Miners Right use motorised equipment to process gravel for minerals that has been excavated using hand held equipment and loaded into the processing equipment by hand?

Yes, however, significant land disturbance using these methods will not be permitted.

A big trommel might not meet this requirement.

Not knocking Hard Yakka's gear as it's top notch.
But can understand wanting the Heckler made gear as their highbankers are "The Porn" of all highbankers when it comes to quality.
Just expensive and the freight on top can make the whole unit obscenely expensive but if one has the $$$ to burn then guarantee there will be days of drooling just looking at one of their units !!!

You might want to check your facts Nugget!

Perfectly legal in vic,

No different to running a highbanker apart from you can run a whole lot more material in a day, just as long as it is fed by hand.

Thanks for the plug golddig ;)

I've got a couple ready to go if your interested Bush_buggy, also happy to show you one working if you want.

cheers

Yeah sorry about that.

I'll rephrase, trommels cannot be used in NSW, QLD, WA, SA, TAS, for recreational prospecting / fossicking as they fall under the mechanical umbrella. It appears they can be used in VIC and SA for the above purpose.

Thanks for the clarification :)

Cheers,

Heckler schmeckler. Import duties, follow up support, waiting, emailing. Meh. Stay local.

Why would I buy local, I already bend over for the tax man !

As for Hard Yakkas gear I've always been suitably impressed with his quality and price but having a wife who would turn into Lorena Bobbitt if I bought 1 more prospecting item I don't dare risk another purchase.

Thanks Hardyakka. I'm just learning at the moment about what machines do what. It's good to know that somebody in Australia is making equipment like the trommel you've made. I would send you a private message but I don't have enough posts yet to do that. I will be coming back to Australia though so it's good to be a member of this community.

I was thinking that if you bought a rural property you are allowed to make dams that fill up with rainwater. When I was in WA we went to stay at a rural property that had about 5 small self contained cabins and they had carved out a massive 3/4 of a km long by 100-200 meter wide stretch of water. It had loads of mini lobsters in it too.

So I was thinking that if you're allowed to make a massive water source and officially say it's for fire prevention as well as a water supply, then whose to stop you from going through all of the dirt that you excavate with a trommel/sleuce combo?

If I'm the owner of that rural property I would think that i could also allow people to come and help sort through all of that material and work out some kind of angreement for people to prospect on that material and to give me a smaller share of it if they find something. Is there anything wrong with that line of thinking when living in Australia? :)

bush-buggy, i'm not up to speed with all the rules and regs of WA,
someone like Diggerdude would probably have more of an idea on that.

Cheers
