Hi all, got the chance to have a play with a mine lab x terra 705. Im from Echuca lived up here for 20 years, originally from south of Melbourne. Always wanted to have a go, so to speak with gold detecting, so I jumped at the chance when the brother-in-law offered me a loan of his. So here I am. I look forward to digging up anything to start with. Must admit I got excited in BILaws garden finding foil and rusty nails haha. Now, hopefully to actually getting to the local goldfields -Bendigo or Castlemaine. Wish me luck.

Hi Trace & welcome to PA Forum.
The 705 isnt a great gold detector in AU (mainly a treasure/coin/jewellery), but is a good learning machine & capable of finding tiny bits in the top few inches if the ground isnt too mineralised (noisy) & if you walk over it.
Ideally you want the 10x5" or 15" Double D coil in 18.75kHz on it.
Hopefully your B.I.L. has the operating manual & a suitable coil for you to try out with.
Set the detector to 'All Metal' mode & keep the Iron Mask setting down low ... no more than 5, & dig every target.
It can get tedious very quickly if you are in an area with a lot of lead shot, steel cans & rubbish, & aluminium (cans etc).
If you enjoy the challenge & are keen to go better later on, upgrade to a more specialised detector like the Gold Monster 1000, or 1 of numerous other Brand/Models that are aimed at gold. These can be found for prices around & under $1000 new & 2nd hand.
If you really get the bug then you will need to acquire a specific PI (pulse Induction) detector ... lots more $
good luck & happy hunting :goldnugget: :pickshovel: :Y:
