I sit at 614m above sea level and was discovered by a shepherd.

The area derives its name from an incident when a thief stole 750 ounces of gold from miners after getting them drunk with rum.

Leslie Thomas "Tom" Starcevich,VC(5 September 1918 17 November 1989) was anAustralian recipientof theVictoria Cross, the highest decoration for gallantry "in the face of the enemy" that can be awarded to members of British andCommonwealtharmed forces. He received the award as member of the2/43rd Battalion, during theBorneo campaignof theSecond World War.

Brother. Joe Starcevich became aprisoner of warfollowing the surrender of Singapore on 15 February 1942.
