It amazes me how little burning the southern states do, thankfully red tape hasn't stopped it in the NT yet. Last Friday I picked up
70000 incendiaries and will spend the next month dropping them around my area.
If I get it right we won't get any large fires for the next 12 months.

Yes Shep,

The NT Bushfire Council do an amazing job at managing bushfires with there burnoffs. I was the RAAF rep for the VRD region back in the mid 1990's around the Delamere area. Hats off to the crew.

Cheers

Thanks mate, 16 operational staff cover 99% of the NT so the only chance of dealing with big fires is preventing them in the first place.
VRD is my region but at the moment I am also looking after the gulf and Arnhem regions as well.

It doesn't help when a lot of the vegetation is introduced species like gamba grass. That stuff causes some of the hotest bushfires up there. Spent some time up there spraying the stuff and it certainly gets thick.

Keep up the got work Shep.

Hope everyone around the South West of Sydney comes through this bushfire all right.

Cheers

Well another year is almost over and fire season is on our door step. Please do your part and help the emergency services help you. Get your homes ready for the season, are your gutters clean, do you have wood piled up against the house, do you have an adequate water source? Decide now what you are going to do in the event of a bush fire. Are you going to stay or go?

get a couple of sheep ... grass problem solved ..... end of fire season = spit roast/BBQ :fire: :D
did that got a ewe and a wether ended up with 3 sheep then the arsnho across the road let his 2 rotties out for a play end result 3 very mauled sheep. next door neighbour went over there with his rifle and the bastard was madly washing his dogs saying he was just giving them a bath karma happened though as his dogs visited a farm just down the road a couple of weeks later and got 1 sheep before the farmer got 2 dogs the dog owned also got the bill for replacing a stud animal

It's pretty bad down there :N: spoke to a mate yesterday who was busy moving stock and getting ready for the onslaught. His wife and daughter had already evacuated, haven't heard any more other than the news reports. The volunteers are priceless :Y: :power:. Our daughters partner told me of Greenies tying themselves to bulldozers and excavators in the black range that were called for to help fight the fires and put in fire breaks  The machines didn't go but the operators did. These people even though their payed contractors are the unsung heroes    of these large fires without them it would be impossible to contain any fire in some of this country. I've met some of these blokes and they know the steep timber country like the back of their hand, their multi generation timber cutters and the right people for the job. Not all of the fires are in steep country but where it is these machines and operators are invaluable.
