Hi forum people. I have recently purchased an X-Terra 705. After a few outings, I thought I should get a protective cover for the screen/control box. I went down to a large chain store that stocks Minelab and various accessories. $40 later I was fitting a quite basic cover to my rather expensive (to me anyway) new detector.Am I just being a tight arse, or am I right in thinking that for $40 I should be getting a bit more? Which brings me to my question, Is there aftermarket accessories available? Or am I stuck with buying genuine?

No, you can get aftermarket covers and coils for the 705, have a scroll through ebay and you will find some gear that suits. NEL Coils sell aftermarket coils to suit your detector, including switchable multi-frequency coils, which saves you from having to buy individual coils for separate frequencies. A lot of my detector control box covers have come from Ukraine and Russian sellers on ebay.

Thanks Goldpick, when this one shits itself, I'll look at those ones. Have you ever used one of these NEL coils?

Ukraine seems to be putting out a lot of detector accessories. You can get covers for most machines, sand scoops etc.

All my camo control box and shaft covers for the Etrac and Tejon are from the Ukraine, a much improved fit over the very loose fitting genuine covers, and also at a portion of the cost (even with postage included).

The genuine Etrac cover is a shocker, it moves around so much it is near on impossible to access the buttons, that lasted about 5 mins on the detector before being tossed.

You can also get some good covers from the UK for various detectors, though the exchange rate can be a bit of a pain.

Adhesive contact like used on school books could be used for a protective screen cover, the clear stuff ofcourse, pretty cheap.

Yes, I had a NEL DD Sharpshooter on my Tesoro Vaquero, it had some great depth capabilities for such a small coil. Their gear is of excellent quality, there are a few other users on the forum that swear by them.

yeah very unhappy with mine lab cover for 705 it is loose fit and not square just a idea for you google ur local leather guy who makes anything and everything. give him your control box and your mine lab cover so he can reuse the clear screen and get him to make a leather cover it looks awesome and is a tight fit . and also you can get a custom feel to it . can stamp or carve anything you want into it depends how much you want to get it protected and the best thing is you just take it off and water proof it when ever u want
