Went out for a couple of hours on some old workings that I’d done to death in the past with the SDC. It’s surprising what the 6000 can sniff out. The first bit was on the edge of an 8m hole. Had to lie down and put the scoop into the hole to catch the gravel as it was scratched out.

I then went to a pile that had some lead shot in a small 1m x 1m section. I thought if I could recover all of the shot, there may be a piece of yellow masked by the junk. After digging 7 pieces of lead, I finally got to the last target. You wouldn’t read about it. It was a nice mellow signal and you guessed it………….

another piece of shot. So much for that theory. Might head back there in a couple of days for a serious scratch around.

Went out this morning.
Found a nice spot where I picked up more yellow than lead.
Then it started raining again.

STOP *#@%××× RAINING. 🤬
And when it does, mozzie *#@%xxx paradise. Don’t stay out there too long SL because I have it from a usually reliable authority that a prospector has gone missing in the area, last seen carried off by 20,000 of them.

Yeah the mozzies are something else. I've been using the Off repellent and it works ok. But you do need to keep it up. I apply about every 30-45 minutes.
As for the rains, I know there are a lot of people worse off with all the flooding going on.
Not being able to detect cause of the rain is nothing compared to what some others have encountered.
But I think everyone would agree when I say.
STOP X%#*^=× RAINING!!!

Hit the jackpot the other day out the back of the wedderburn caravan found a nugget with the weight of 57.7grams now are at a bit of a loss who to sell it to. Detector company seem to offer gold price less 20% however the only one of that weight I could find was approx six thousand any advice on where to sell in victoria would be much appreciated. Amazing buzz first find this big. Thanks for all the previous advice guys. Ureka.

WOW, that must have got the heart racing a little

Long time between posts, Picked up this 7g nugget with the 6k from an old patch.
Thought I had cleared this out with the Zed but managed this one and 4 other sub grammers in a short couple hour session.

Is this WA? If it is Im giving up detecting in Vic. Took me 9months and about 65 pieces to find 7g here. Beautiful nugget.

For gold of similar sizes ?
Is that a trace of “I’m only interested in big stuff”? We probably all started out with similar hopes. Some of us were lucky, most were not.
Met one guy once who found a 4oz nugget out on a training day. I think he spent most of it equipping himself with monster coils, thinking another was just around the corner.
Knocked around with him for a bit but never saw him even once find any gold with his large coils, while I was pulling in a steady stream of smaller stuff.
Maybe he had some luck after we lost touch, but have never seen him about in the goldfields since.

Apologie

Apologies Russ for my post inferring that you may have been only interested in finding larger nuggets and it was incorrect of me to assume that. Understanding that the Smithers post with the good sized wedderburn nugget was from 2013 and who Grappys is puts it into a better context.
It’s something I have a habit of doing to caution people relatively new to prospecting about in the hope that they lower expectations and not give the game away too soon If early expectations are not met.
