The hypocrisy of these Tesla wankers ! Hooked up to a caravan power point at Caiguna WA van park, charging their RIP OIL " green " machine from a diesel generator that runs the park !
When I challenged them about that, their answer was " its excess power because the generator is running all the time " !!
Never mind that the generator has to work harder when the Tesla wankers hook up to it !
PS : The occupants had to stay in a motel room all night, while they waited for their " green machine " to charge up, also run by the same dirty diesel generator !!

Thats what I was saying in the other thread, about them driving a Eco car with its power made by fossil fuel, It's just not Green at all,

I think if they are going to claim all the Gov perks and Grants that go with buying EV's they should only be allowed to charge them from 100% Green Electricity,

That is a bit far out for a Tesla isnt it? I wonder if they were just "Telsa-ing how far they could go before needing roadside assistance"

In all honesty I would buy an electric car if we had good KW solar panels with storage batteries, tap into the FREE energy and top up overnight.
I think they are a good idea, Henry Ford did too.

We have a small car just for local travel/work that would do less than 200km a week, and 2x others that are for the large family.
But I can't see a electric car being practical for 6 people and distance travel, energy in petroleum fuel is still a more reliable long distance resource.
Those Tesla trucks have a bit to go yet, but they will get there.
Like toy cars, when the battery is flat, it no go.

I don't own one, have no interest, personally don't think they are practical (yet) in most of Australia. To those that may know, what do they do if they run out of 'fuel'? RACQ ain't bringing a jerry of petrol and away they go???

I am a little confused, so to clarify myself to me, I think petroleum will be with us for a long time yet, until we have a seriously good supply of electrical energy, or other type, we can use in all the things you mentioned.
I also think there have been a lot of material break throughs that may never have happened if the focus was not as intense in this area, and it may take another 50 years yet.
Locally, an electric car topped up from my roof makes reasonable sense to me.
But the car costs need to come down a lot more, and I am not thinking from a GREEN perspective either, if it helps that way, its a side effect to me.

There will be lots of cheap Teslas (and other EV's) soon, once their batteries start to degrade to the point of no longer putting out adequate 'juice' and at somewhere between 30 or 40 thousand dollars to replace, no one will want to foot that bill. That plus the fact the Australia is going down a very dark hole regarding its energy future, it was announced about four weeks ago that Origin Energy wants to the shut down the Eraring power station on Lake Macquarie six years ahead of schedule, that will be a net loss of 2,880 MW to the system.
There is no way in hell that the so called renewables will be able to keep up with ever increasing demand.

I agree with gh we are driven by convenience and it always has to start somewhere. I can respect a person with an awareness we do things for ourselves.

A friend of mine had an hybrid with lots of batteries. Batteries dried up, the replacement price was comparable to a brand new car. So he sold the car and purchased a petrol engine car. If we cannot extract oil from the underground, we will plant crops that produce oil instead. Oil will never abandon this civilization, the "RIP OIL" wankers can cry all they want.
