What is this fastener looking thing - a book binder?

I've found a few of these at different sites. They look like they are made from copper.

I've found them in varying lengths. Are they binding fasteners for old government books?

Yeah its like a rivet but not strong enough for building or mechanical. Whatever they were used to bind is long gone which is why I was thinking of a book or army manual type thing.

Edit - using your rivet idea I found leather rivets. This and the others are pretty long though.

Yep.... copper saddler’s rivet. A very common find around old farms and villages.

Thanks for the confirmation. I've got a couple at 3/4" and 1" long.

Ahh, having lots of uses would explain why I've found so many - well probably 8 or 10 over a few locations.
