Gold is a very high conductor, third on the list of metals behind copper and silver.
Or my edumacation has finally been wiped out by brain damage.

Pure, refined gold, in a laboratory test setting, yes.

Real world nuggets, less than 99.999% pure, naturally alloyed with silver and other metals, often intermingled with ironstone, quartz and manganese, etc, in random shapes and textures, buried in often mineralised or saline ground at random depths: not so much.

In jewellery, usually alloyed with silver, copper, etc, sometimes to as little as 37.5% (9 carat gold), in all manner of shapes and thicknesses, at random depths, sometimes in saline ground: again, not so much.

I hope this clarifies Narrawa's comment.

I'm aware of why gold connectors are used. Confusion was over the bits about iron being a higher conductor than gold.

I'm gonna put the rest in the hoodoo category and forget it for now.
