If water is flowing at any decent rate you will be in the shite long before the depth of it reaches your airbox.  Still water I'll do windscreen deep ..................... running water nothing much deeper than probably mid way up the wheels. Weight of a car against a volume of water = massive fail 8.( Get into that situation and the only thing a snorkel may help do is see where you car ends up .................. if your lucky enough to get out of it that is.
Stay safe Mexicans :Y:

Bogger!!!! SALT water Noooooooooooo
Good point about flowing water, it has a lot of power, plenty of times in the high country I had to wait or take another route.

OP ....................... yeah ya get about 2 years on Fraser and she's a throw away job. The bottom pic is one heading to the scrappers today ............ minus a lot of metal
Here's another a little deeper ............................. I think it's called show no mercy ...................... on the vehicle that is. But travelling with tide times over there it's pretty hard to avoid some form of water ........... great fun but you wouldn't take a big dollar vehicle into it. We are in for it here in QLD over the weekend also apparently

It wasn't because he didn't have a snorkel.

As you mention; if he had driven it at a sensible speed ie. walking pace rather than at
a speed more suited to Albert Park on Grand Prix day....

I see far too much of this sort of approach to driving off road *especially* in the High
Country of Vic. Oh well... it's his $8000 for a new engine....

That rain just gets heavier and heavier, major flooding already on the roads here in Frankston.....I can imagine it being like this in most parts of Melbourne... Lets just hope people stay safe.... :Y:

Maybe the others you seen that didn't fair so well wished they had taken the advise of what all the radios are saying and to stay home if possible ! I don't have the luxury of paid days off as I've been self employed for over 20 years . Just trying to be helpful so others can make an informed decision

Yes combination of no snorkle and driving like F wit. If he had a snorkle he could have driven like a F wit and been fine.

The point was, go slow and steadily is much better than tearing through water. I drove a falcon through wheel high water once perfectly fine, nice and slow is the key.
Good old XF they were bulletproof, pity they weren't 4wd.

It's not sounding to good for us Mexicans , from the reports I'm seeing and reading it's meant to be real bad !
So I would recommend to everyone ( if you haven't already ) to get up and clean the gutters out and for people who's driveways run down towards there house to seriously consider getting your hands on a few sandbags just in case and to also have your mops , brooms and buckets at the ready ! And most of all stay safe and please don't attempt to drive throu flood waters

Be careful folks!

Dunno why my last post got deleted, it was quite relevant to the dangers of going up on high roofs, and sometimes you're better off getting someone to do it for you.
Anyway I bet that itchy delete finger will scoot this into never never cyber land also.

Not on topic.
Sorry.

We got the storm in Adelaide last night, I'm on the flat near Adelaide Airport and on 2 occasions it rained hard enough to lap over the kerb of the street and cover the camber in the centre of the road.

Fortunately, unless it is of Biblical proportions, we don't flood. Touch Wood (scratches head for the splinter) :)
