Hunt #8 was 2 short hunts again out to what was once an old tennis court, church & school to the south east. Nothing left but mounds to show where the school was, just some rubble and a plaque to pinpoint the church, but the old tennis court is still relatively intact. However there is a large portion overrun with mallee scrub and you are losing 4 inches swinging above the growth and sticks on the ground. A great site to swoop on if a fire goes through it. ;)

Hunt #9 was a weekend away to the riverland, at first i thought my luck was in as it was a veritable smorgasboard of targets. ]:D :rainbow: However my excitement was soon quelled once the cleaning process began. :( I only managed a couple of short hunts whilst there and i was surprised by the state of the targets when they popped out of the ground. All targets were completely encrusted by a hard compacted sediment, much like, but worse than the worst beach coins. They all came from extreme depths where the sand turned to a really hard wet black clay. It is really surprising how bad they are considering they are all later date (Elizabeth) coins, even the silvers are woefull.

Lord, The second to last pic shows the coppers after being cooked to stop the BD.

Hunt #10 again was 2 hunts, on the second hunt Wishfull joined me. I heard about this site when talking to an old local, they pointed out a stand of trees down the street from where we stood chatting and said that in the old days the local indigenous folk used to park their horses and buggies there when they came in to town. Naturally i had to investigate the area. not included in the pic are the rings and buckles i found that were once parts of the horses harnesses. I had a bit of a chuckle when i realised the site is right outside Wishfulls partners 2 houses and he had no idea that the site existed.

Gosh, quite a backlog of finds to post up, you have been quite busy by the looks of things. The hotel with the coins stuck to the bar is the Two Brothers Arms at Macclesfield, all the coins came from the well inside the hotel. They reckon there are many silvers and possibly gold coins still in the well, though confined spaces safety issues have apparently hampered further recoveries.

Another spot worth trying is the old cricket ground in Ashborne, further on from Meadows. Got my best early 1900's florin and shilling from there many years ago, though bit of a bottle cap hell hole.

Only an average of 1 hunt p/week, the cleaning and photo's/posting takes more time than it does to recover them  Thanks for the info, i will take a trip to macclesfield one weekend and check those coins out.

Only a friendly rub mate ]:D just trying to bring out the competitive beast in you so you'll come out with me more often and finally find that elusive pre dec your after. :Y: that's the only thing i dislike about the peninsula mate, it's always a godforsaken windy @#%& of a place :N: I think i'm going to clean the VM a bit more and get it all right back to copper then cook it for a while and see what i can come up with

Rub it in. That's cool. Victory medal came up nice.
You did well mate. I found a brass thimble part of a fob watch, 3 iron droppers and a rotten cold I've had ever since then and still have.
Are you getting blown away with this storm ?

"Some days are Diamonds, and Some days are Stone" :brokenh: Some days that monkey on my back, won't leave me alone. :(

Been eyeing off an old farmsite each time i drive by for the last 12 months. Finally got my shit together and took a gps reading of it then loaded it onto google earth for accuracy. I then overlayed our LGA cadastral map onto it and obtained a lot number. I rang the local council office with the lot number and the girls supplied me with the owners details. :Y: The other week when i was heading out for a hunt i went past the house of the farmer who owned the old farmsite and called in to run my spiel and obtain permission to detect the site. ;) Job done ]:D Thought i'd go check out it's potential today.

Determined not to go home empty handed i headed a few ks further up the road to an old school site (1914-1948) that is council owned and therefore public land.

"Some Days Are Stone"

With about an hour of daylight left i took a different route home and detoured past an old church site that has an adjoining tennis court.

I wouldn't call it a Diamond, but it certainly saved the day. :|

Mate that was brilliant, I must say I did have a laugh at the empty tray because I was expecting to see something... :) Good on the church ground for saving the day. :) :Y:
I know what you mean about those stone days, I've had more than I care to mention.

The empty tray gave me a giggle, been down that road plenty of times in the past. Pity about the house site, although I wouldn't discount it so quickly as they are not the easiest spots to get instant results from. Might have had a few trespassers in the past jumping the fence for a quick clean out of the high conductors as well. :)

Some days you're the dog and some days you're the powerpole! You still did better than me, yesterday I was definitely the powerpole!
