Hi All
I have a question that has come to light from my research on an area.

The stuff I have been reading points out there where "LARGE" specimen found in the area, with many claims applied for in the location.

My Question is has anyone had success in tracking down or locating maps or information in regards to the location of claims that have been applied for or granted, by the way this area is in North Queensland. Time frame is 1880's to 1930's roughly!!
Any information that you may have that could possibly help would be awesome, any advise on how to access any such archives would be appreciated.
Thanks for your consideration.

OH
I have checked the DME data base & they are not on there, I am thinking some sort of "Mining Wardens archive", I have also spoken to the mining Registrar for this area for some help but that came up short.
cheers

Hi Lee,

I'm not sure what area of North Queensland you are researching but you can always do a google search for "mining warden report Etheridge 1890" for example. Your local library in Townsville should hold a lot of reference material that may help, don't forget the library at James Cook Uni, they have a large collection on North Queensland history.

Some links that may be of use.

Hey Gerard
Thanks for that mate, I had not thought of the UNI, I have checked stuff there before quite a few years back!
Thanks for the links & the search prompt, it's all you need sometimes.
Thanks again

Hi Lee,
Were you chasing info on current claims and leases? Or historical claims on a Goldfield?
The dme website has an interactive map which has overlays for exploration and production leases as well
as historical prospects and mines.
Unfortunately it doesnt give the original date of most of the historical prospects just the date that data entries were created for the map. Earliest dates seem to be around the early 90s even on abandonded mines I know havnt been worked since the late 1890s.
The exploration permit data seems up to date though, showing the date approved and the date it expires.
Hope this helps.

Hi Mate
The stuff I am chasing is 1890 to 1930 time frame & has come to light from Trove but I can't find any other reference to it, I just found some stuff that may point me in the right direction from the heads up from the previous poster.
thanks
Lee
