I know Australia needs mining but what good is 10 years of jobs and mining income, compared to the loss of all that valuable grazing and farming land.
The plains are good farming and grazing land. With ongoing drought conditions we can't afford to lose ANY farming lands. But then again, I guess we can always import our food and wool needs from China.
I have relatives who farm near that area. They don't have town water and rely a lot on bore water for everything except drinking. (tank water)
They certainly don't want their ground water to be contaminated by the tailings dam seepage. And neither do the any other farmers and graziers in the area.
Too often these days good farming and grazing lands are given over to mining. Our population is growing rapidly but drought has cut food production.
Our country won't go into an economic recession if this goldmine doesn't go ahead. :N: :N: :N:
