Today a mate & me went for a paddle in his canoe to the site of Old Tangil, Victoria.
Tangil was in the late 1800's a busy gold area but the rush there didn't last long/not profitable.
The area was flooded by Blue Rock Dam in 1984, water is supplied by the Tanjil River. The nearest town is Willow Grove.
Now the only way to access the old township site is on foot via private property along the shore edge(not an easywalk as it's rugged ground & overgrown), or by boat.
There's very little evidence of the town left. If you're not looking for it you wouldn't notice anything. We found some old tin, bricks, old mine shafts, broken crockery, some open flat areas & some trees you wouldn't normally see in the forest etc.
Did find an old foundation of a chimney & some house stumps
It was a cold & damp day but was worth the paddle out.
