At long last my Deus has arrived! I ended up purchasing it direct from France after having issues with the local distributor not being able to supply one within a reasonable time frame. XP France had the Deus at my front door in a little over a week with a couple of sweeteners for the inconvenience experienced, so am more than happy with the outcome.
First impressions led to me wondering whether anything was in the box considering how light the detector is. All components look to be of high quality, and the actual control box that mount on the stem is impressively small, as seen in the picture with a 50c coin for comparison.
I ordered mine with the 11" coil, and despite not being the stock coil (9" is stock), it is still extremely light to swing and feels well balanced in the hand. I didn't order the 9" coil as I am holding out for the small 6x9" eliptical coil and updated V4.0 software, possibly set for release later in the year, or early 2016. Also nice to see that spare coil hardware is included should you happen to lose them in the field, plus spare covers for the backphones. The wall charger is supplied with the appropriate Australian pins without need for adapters.
I have already purchased a couple of small power packs to allow charging in the field should the need arise. The lithium batteries have a quick recharge time, hence a lunch break during extended periods of detecting will be all that is required for a top up.
Rather than going for the full cup WS5 headphones, I opted for the WS4 lightweight backphones with the remote control, and a pair of Chefphones full cup headphones to use in conjunction with the remote for improved noise isolation.
Hopefully I will get out sometime soon to become more familiarised with the Deus, especially after not using a single frequency for a fair while now. The way I will utilise this detector is as a companion to the Etrac, not as a direct replacement - I am looking to exploit their strengths in areas that suit one or the other.
