Just thought I would put up a few pics of some bits and pieces i have picked up recently. Nothing special, but interesting to me.

Managed to con the wife into going for a drive to look for some rocks the other day. She ended up finding a nice sliver of agate. Not much colour and has a crack, but i grinded a flat and will polish it up for her. Also started to flattened out another piece we had found previously. Hopefully seeing a few things she has found polished up a bit will get her a bit more keen.

Found an interesting looking nodule as well, but when i picked it up, found mother nature had already cracked it open. It still had a little drusy quartz on the inside. Also found a little botryoidal chalcedony and nice coloured jasper. As well as a weird crystal, thought it was smoky quartz at first, but shape and texture is weird.

Last bits were from my last trip to UNI. Some basalt with xenoliths of peridotite.

Both of you made some stunning finds there mate! I love that chalcedonic dragon skin :D
The nodule looks similar to some stuff I've found along the beach with chalcedony type mixed calcite mass. Green is interesting on it

Cheers AR, it was good to get out for a couple of hours. Even if it was just to look for rocks :D
Not as spectacular as some bits i have seen, but the fact that we can find them ourselves makes up for it.

When I first found it, it was covered in a layer of green algae and was laying on its side. I really looked like a beryl crystal, but they are not known in the area. After a clean, it looked a lot more like smoky quartz with some light behind it, but not glassy or even what I would call waxy, it has almost a plastic look to it, though its not plastic. The photos do make it appear green again, but it is more of a grey colour to me.
Will keep investigating 8)

agate with the patterns olivine the green in the basalt and a geode not sure about the others nice finds but :)

Cheers guys.
The peridotite xenolith in the basalt is especially interesting because it was brought up from the mantle by the basalt, rather than forming in the basalt. The little piece shows some nice olivine, but the larger bit has more pyroxene showing (darker green and black crystals). Wish I could find something like that down my way. May have to look a little harder :D
