Thanks for that Ramjet, interesting read... I used to explore old mining caves along the Lerderderg river when i was a teenager, back then i didn't know of the dangers and a lot of them went 100s of metres. Looking back on it now im lucky i'm still alive, the Lerdy was my playground growing up and that was the thing me and my mates did on the weekends and as for these dudes going down mine shafts i think there crazy especially abseiling down.
I know of a few in Barrys Reef that go down to 900-950 feet.
Here's a pic of the Sultan mine and its only got a dodgy plank of wood over the top and covered with blackberry bushes, you wouldn't know it was there.
