Hi all

Off to Eldorado on the 2nd. My first time there and spending time between Xmas and then trying to get my highbanker and prospecting gear all onto a collapsible hand trolly I got at Bunnings the other day.

All the best for the Season everyone.

If you want to do some planning on the cheap - go to Vic Parks website and download the various parks data with maps. They generally also have advisories on each map if fossicking is OK or not. Go to the DPI FAQ page on Miners Rights - it has the list of places that are approved. You can also get your miners right on-line - it must be carried at all times, no photocopies ( see FAQ). Ararat? north out of town (very close to town) - the tourist joint at the Ararat railway station has the park maps and used to sell goldfield maps, about $20. Between Adelong and Ararat? I guess you will be coming through Bendigo - if so just north of Eaglehawk - try the Whipstick (don't get lost in there). Get the parks map for free. Just look for the diggings - you cannot miss them. The whole route is covered in diggings and close to the road. There are prospecting shops in Dunolly and Maryborough who sell all the maps. Its a bad time of the year to go into the forests with fire-bans, so take care.

If you are planning a day trip etc, there is free camping with dunnies/potable water at Wanyarra - just out of Dunolly and smack-bang right in the middle of the goldfields, but will be busy. You can camp in the state forests but no fires on fire-ban days. There is very little creek water about at Dunolly/Maryborough/Tarnagulla/Back Creek etc - there is some in the fire water dams. This has been the case for ages.

Don't know what type of detectors you are using - you are chance anywhere. Panning etc? As I said - very little water in the creeks, more like black, sticky, mozzie ridden sludge in places (I don't pan).

Good luck.
