Ah yes, I can just see an edge in photo #2. Dop sticks will even out the whole lumpy business. Ill get that page sent to you when I'm at the club next as I can't find my copy of the book here

Don't know what sort of machine your using, but I'd get killed for putting a pointy stone like your triangle onto the last 3 wheels as points tend to dig in sometimes and rip the material :( I did it once already :(

Clubs can be like that. Mines the same until it gets organised and a bigger building hopefully soon.

I have a lot to learn, my biggest problem is I do not see a lot of the imperfections until I get home in different light, but I did find out at the end of today that there are lamps in the grinding room to be able to check stones in better light :8

The triangle one needs to be grinded or cut from the bottom, I was going to take a lot more off the top, but was loosing all the colour. It is a long way off the sander or polishing machines. The rest of the stones in the last pic still need a lot more shaping. I try to get everything looked at before I move on, so hopefully I wont bust anything too soon

All you need is a fluoro light above your head. Have the reflection of the long globe slide over the rock and when you see 'bumps' or movement in that line you can clearly see where the rock needs more work

I like making cylinders on dop from crystal quartz. Just looks different

G'day Digging Hard, i am just starting to get myself a few bits and pieces so i can start cutting and cabbing at home. If funds are tight and you are not in a rush, i would suggest looking on ebay and gumtree. I got my faceting machine on gumtree and two wheel grinder off ebay. Though these have taken a little work to get up and running.
If you have money to but new, you have a lot of options. I think a 4-6 wheel setup is really the best for home use, though you can get two wheel grinders with a plate on the end for sanding which can also do the trick for a little cheaper.
Places i would look at would be Aussie sapphire, Gemcuts or shell lap:

Very nice

 I don't think anything is perfect in the eyes of the creator, but in the eyes of the receiver, both the gift and the creator are often seen as perfect.

I am sure this will be the case Shivan. thanks for sharing your talents
