Hello everyone.

I've been hunting with an x-terra 705 for the last few years, it's been such a great machine to use, found heaps of treasures, not only of value but sentimental.

A while ago I discovered that the coil was waterproof, but the control box wasn't. So I started to hunt in lakes and really enjoy it. But the only problem is I can only get up to the cable, getting too game with it and getting right up. I shouldn't be doing it, but it's worth it. ;P

So I wanted to upgrade, weather I get the CTX 3030, so I can use on land and water. Or do I go for the Excalibur II which is more suitable for fully submersible use. (I will be going as deep as I can stand)

- Will only be detecting in the sea occasionally

So I was wondering if anyone, with experience with these machines or knowledge could lead me on the right direction.

Here is a list of reasons why I would chose one over the other.

CTX 3030:

Versatile
Wireless audio
GPS
Ergonomic - more so than the apparently un-balanced Excalibur II
Better for dry land

Excalibur II:

Simple
Fully submersible and has no issues doing so
Cheaper
Better depth
Less drag underwater
Possibly better for underwater - in depths that the CTX is rated to?

Thank you for reading this!

If you want a specialist machine for wading/diving then go the Excalibur every day.

If you want a unit as an all-rounder with occasional water use, go the CTX3030.

The Excalibur is heavy and unbalanced on the land, whereas the CTX is much nicer.

The Excalibur has a hip mount that I used and it made it so light, just a coil on the shaft and the could doesn't float. Ctx works well under water but gets heavy quick

Thanks for the responses everyone!

I think I'm going to go with the CTX3030, seems to suit my needs a bit better and it's about time to move up from the x-terra.

I'll defintly change the o ring Coinballs, sounds like the CTX uses poor quality rings.
