With discriminating detectors been so cheap and affordable plus all the media promotion this happening more often?
A mate who works for a government authority caught two detector operators last week in a no go National Park and heritage
listed site. When questioned they made a claim they had permission? Which turned out to be a very big lie. Went and had a
look at the messy holes they left?

I wear high visabilty workwear at work and around 6 months ago in my lunch break seen two detector operators in a park, went over to have a friendly
chat with them? One bolted assuming i was a council worker? Chatted to the other guy, noticed he was using a pick for digging in well maintained lawn?
Left some very messy holes too? I did tell him about neat recovery techniques.

As far as i know digging in parks in Victoria is a very grey area? No doubt with increased activity councils will move towards banning such activities.

Stupid part about it is that if those holes were caused by a detectorist then the dirt would be mostly around one side of the hole with such small holes and it is not so ya can rule out it being a detectorist.

Seems we are in collective denial. Lets face it, there are rogue detector operators who dig unsightly holes in public places who don't give a fig about anyone else.

I doubt it's sabotaging greenies, I doubt it's mysterious sneeky little marsupials, I doubt it's aliens and I doubt it's spontanious natural ground eruptions or volcanic farts.

My best guess would be a dickhead detectorist.

Got to agree :Y: proofs in the pudding, do a search on unfilled holes and you'll soon work out how many d@#kheads use detectors Australia wide. You'll also know who has commented as anti against the behaviour, never read a pro comment yet and none of the photos of evidence in any thread has the perpetrator/s in view :/ So let's not corrupt this thread I'm sure it wasn't intentional so let it be and let's move on.

Problem is that if a skilled Detecting person came along and confirmed it was a d@#khead detectorist, many would still be OK with it.

I think it was Vegans looking for good roots to eat. So until proven other wise; tis what it is. d@#khead vegan detectorist :lol:
