Had a swing at the beach today to keep the ears in tune
and there was so much erosion. I worked a 50 metre long
eroded section for 2 hours and bagged a bunch of coins.
Was hardly any junk at all only a few old nails and bits of wire.

I had already done this section a week ago but there was another
2 feet of sand gone so thought all the heavy stuff will be more
exposed. Probably another half a km of erosion but....... Maybe
next week.

Was probably 10 coins to one junk target. Some were badly
corroded, so gave them a soak in vinegar and salt for an hour,
seemed to work ok. Will use gloves next time, doh!

Anyway just wanted to see how many targets I could get in
2 hours soooo not too bad at all. A gold ring would have been
nice though.

Nice one heatho! When you say erosion on the beach do you mean the foreshore or the actuall beach? Sorry, I've never done beach prospecting In any form.

Thanks fellas, I really got stuck into it, could'nt get 2 steps without
a signal. Lots more there hey, I did along the front of the surf tower
at Long Reef near Collaroy. Plenty left even where I was.

Also there's the 500 or so metres between there and the golf course.

There's between a 2 foot and 10 foot drop off of sand carved out from
almost the dunes to the surf from last weeks storms.

Arrrggghhh that be nice pirate porn Matt. :)

Cheers guys, pretty happy with it. Will keep it in the collection, they actually fetch a decent price from coin dealers. I'm wondering if I should give it a rub with bi-carb or just leave it. They look great cleaned up but....... don't want bugger it up.

2004 price in pounds for 1846 shilling is F=10 , VF=20, EF=85 , UNC= 200

What exactly do f vf and ef stand for?
Can't half tell Im no collector eh?!?

Cool, thanks for posting that info. It looks in reasonable condition as in must not have been in circulation long, just a bit discoloured from being in the ground so long. I gave it a rub with bi-card paste which got rid of all the dirt but still a bit of oxidisation.

Anyway hopefully more silvers to come soon, gold too, that would be good. :)
