Hey, does anyone know how to look up a U.S. dog tag for a man who lived in Australia?
One side says U.S. ARMY
The other side has details as for the name,

Robert Ellery
3 hatchinson st
Penrith
Serial no. ?47 331877

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Just out of interest, someone posted this one on the Facebook group "ID Me Australia" today.
I assume it was detected somewhere in Australia.

It confirms a bit about the home address being included then taken off.

" it is the correct dog tag as issued to US forces early in the war. Addresses were removed after the Japanese captured soldiers or used the deceased dog tags as propaganda"

"that’s why in the South Pacific there are hundreds being found at old camp sites. Go turn your dog tags in to the company clerk and get new ones. Company Clerk is saying what the hell will I do with these old ones. Throw them in the dump!"
