Queensland gold dredging association

Just reading the new gold and gem mag and on page 74 it has national gem, mineral &metal detecting club listings ,
There is one in QLD which is Queensland gold dredging association @ mirriwinni QLd 4871
Thought dredging was not allowed in Australia , any one know any thing about this association ?

From what I can find, HAND TOOLS ONLY on public fossicking areas. If they have their own mining lease then you can if you mention it on your Ml application

there's plenty of references to dredging associations in the old gold and gem mags assume its a legacy name but still an organization of like minded people

Hi Ozjono,
just a little bit of context to go with your post. The dredging operation in miriwinni is a commercial operation dredging the eubanadgee swamp lands at the east end of the russell river about an hour or so from cairns. Theyre after all the deep alluvial gravels dumped there over the last few thousand years. The russell used to be a minor goldfield up here a hundred years or so ago, at the time it was only mined along the rivers edge by hand and then later in terraces up the sides of an increasingly steep gorge. Eventually it was abandoned as the bullocks could only get so far through the jungle and equipment couldnt be carried much further up the mountain side.
Today its all farms and private properties up and down the lower reaches of the gorge to the highway and swamp and cane farms on the other side.
Not sure of the extent of the gold deposits left up there but given that the area is an extensive national park and the sheer density of the jungle growth I would expect there to be some decent veins left that could be viable by todays standards if it were possible to get past the DPI and the greenies.

Dredging is allowed if you can get it approved on your ML, if you can get it approved....
