Hi all,
I have recently acquired a metal detector and have never had one before. One question I cant seem to clarify is do I need a permit to use it on a beach?

Hi and welcome to the group
Firstly I guess we need to know where the beach is you want to detect and Im sure someone from the region can answer your question with some confidence
On a side note, you a pilot by any chance?
Cheers
Jamie

I'm planning on doing some metal detecting on Mindil Beach here in Darwin NT Australia, from what a few forum members have said, it looks like you don't need a permit to metal detect on beaches as long as it is only for recreational purposes rather than commercial gain, apparently you're allowed to find up to about 10 grams of gold according to NT government laws, but I could be totally wrong about all that, it is always a good policy to ask first just to be sure though.
