Neodymium. Primary miners Russia & China. China began mining when the price went up x 4. Used in hard drives and motors so china has a large demand & the price increase made lower yield mines viable.

Biggest danger when swallowed is when they slam together trapping tissue between, hence a danger to children who may swallow several magnets.

Neodymium is only mildly toxic (constant skin contact can cause mild irritation or dermatitis). It's biggest danger is from swallowing powerful magnets as bazxa states above, or from especially large magnets crushing tissue.
Another interesting effect is that some materials (diamagnetic) are actually repelled by magnetic fields. Water is, although only mildly - see a live frog (mostly water) floating in a strong magnetic field on youtube. Also repelled are others including Bismuth, Mercury and the very interesting - pyrolytic carbon - the most diamagnetic material (albeit man made) known. I have some pyrolytic carbon discs continually floating on Neodymium magnets at home. Makes an interesting display - an almost frictionless bearing.
