Since getting my 705 I've managed 3 trips to the beach, two near my house at Coogee and one to Bondi.

So far I've found:
$10 in change
an aluminium bracelet
a ring (soft metal, but seems heavier than aluminium)
a modern penny
an earing with a plastic stone
some kind of charm

And of course a bunch of junk, bottle caps hair pins and foil being the main offenders.

Noticed the beach was getting pretty eroded when I went to get a coffee on saturday, came back today and picked up my first amazing find.
10K white gold ring with 5 diamonds. (if they scratch glass they are diamonds right?).
Inscriptions on the inside are 10K and MHJ (I'm assuming a makers mark?)

Also found a penny sitting right on the surface! Plus the usual chance and junk, pics of that coming soon.

Nice find, the ring is marked Michael hill jewellers as I used to work there at one stage. That round have retailed at around the $600 to $800 range new :D

Thanks guys :)
Anyone got any tips on where I should go to have it checked out? My jewellery tutor seemed to think it might not be diamonds.

Get a diamond tester from eBay, the around $20 and then you can test ring with it in the future

AusFX ...
Great find... I am so relieved .. I lost it... I know its mine because if you look on the inside of the band it will be inscribed with MHJ and 10K

When can I collect it ??? .... Peter./

by the way ..it was my toe ring.

You've got some weird shaped toes Dreamwalking. haha

Thanks Sa_bogan, I might just do that.

AusFX .. Strange that you say that about my feet .. so did my swimming instructor who used to call me Frog instead of Pete' ... All jokes aside, did you follow up on getting a diamond tester ..if so ... were they the real thing ?

Beep- Thanks! I managed to figure that one out with a bit of a google :p

Dreamwalking- Written any children's books lately? haha.
I did follow up on it and had it tested, the diamonds are the real deal ;)

I think I've out detected my local beach of all the good stuff. Went down there today and found a grand total of a $1 coin, 20c coin and a 5c coin. Plus plenty of junk as usual.
On the plus side it seems like its starting to warm up, so hopefully the beaches will get a bit busier.

I think I was getting some false signals, or possibly losing signals in the freshly wet sand. I figure it might be because I'm using the 18khz gold pack coil? Would I have better luck with the 18khz concentric coil, 7.5khz concentric or 7.5khz DD, etc?

You can never flog out a beach - the tide brings new goodies every day and exposes others buried for years - one day nothing and the next could be a bonanza. You have been spoiled to have hit such nice targets so soon! I still have not found a diamond ring. :(

When you lose a signal chances are you pushed the target deeper in the hole - try removing a couple more scoops and check the hole again. Bogan got a gold ring last week from a disappearing target signal! ;)

What sensitivity are you running on the beach, as it may be necessary to wack it back a few notches to run a stable threshold vs simply changing coils. Also remember the 18.75kHz eliptical coil is not waterproof, so I hope you haven't been dunking it in the ocean. ;)

Maybe message SA Bogan, as I believe he was running the Coiltek DD WOT coil for the beach, not sure what frequency it was. He might also be able to give some advice on settings to get ithe 705 running better. :)

Goldpick ... now you being a old timer with respect to plundering the sea shores, by your observations what would you consider to be the course of its moment for lets say, a Australian Penny dropped in the following senarios. .. ( remember a Penny means pre 1966 )

1) 10-20 metres above the high tide line on a sandy beach.

2) on the high tide mark at the time it was dropped

3) between the low and high tide marks

4) out in the water past the low tide mark

I know I have called upon you as the first port of call but I extend a offer to anyone to contribute their thoughts on this topic.

Cheers Pete.

Pete, maybe start a new thread regarding your question, I don't want hijack AusFX's personal thread, cheers. :)
