Reading all the articles and some member comments.
My gut instinct tells me that these guys have done this before and that this is the first time they have been taken to court with evidence that resulted in convictions.
Its a good lesson for all of us to make sure we always do the right thing and keep the gold we find legally.
Just my 2 cents worth..

It must be pretty rare for a sentence to be as bad as the crime, I can't ever recall seeing it. A guy gets 25 years for murder and is out in 15, an embezzler gets 2 years for stealing millions and never has to pay it back, for your first 6 or 7 crimes you get a community service order which basically means you have to do nothing and everyone else gets a suspended sentence. There is no justice system in this country, just a legal system.
