Don't know if this has been posted before but in answer to a forum members request here is a hand trommel that can be easily built out of buckets and plumbing parts.

I just rang my mate with the workshop for making all things gold related (oh, and work related) and he said "We need one" Need to modify so it fits above sluice and empties into hopper box. Also adding a spray bar to wash the clay/gold off the rocks.

Yes I had the same idea Cracka, started a build but had to abandon it when I moved house a year ago.

You should be able to add paddles to one end and divert some of the water from the pump to it so the water rotates the trommel.

It would be fairly light even with the rocks going through it so it shouldn't take much water pressure to power it.

Run the spray bar directly through the centre of it so you can wash the bigger rocks to get the clay off before they run out the other end.

I've built one. There's some issues needed to be worked through in the design process but overall not bad. I seriously say on that basis a good top box on a Highbanker would be a better return for time but it can be built. Spray bars are another story. You will need some shielding. I added every bit of info I had on my build in a previous thread. Hand crank trommel I believe, started a couple of posts in.

i built a trommel a long time ago i used a 12 gallon drum some bearings and a windscreen wiper motor some pushbike chain and the big bike sprocket and a tiny hand made sprocket it all worked fine but was a bit slow and you just cant shovel flatout

i have just recently decided to get it going again and had to throw out the trommel (rusted solid bearings and big holes on 12 gale drum part ) so now it is just a high banker but it worked ok at eldorado oh i also used a 12v pump
originally but now i have a small petrol pump

Hey Ronk, That is what I am doing now, but a bit smaller using 150 dia stormwater pipe, the pre punched grill out of a range hood, 4 scooter wheels, large bike sprocket and chain, run by a 12v windscreen wiper blade, trying to make it as portable as possible.

Hi Geo,
I've been toying with making one of these as it seems a good way of processing material through classifying and panning at the same time.
I've got a plant pot that would fit a bucket and have marked it out ready to cut once I commit tot the project.
I've costed the pvc fittings at Bunnings at about $65.

My only concern is that I've not heard from anyone and there's no internet material about whether it works and if it lasts, apart from the posts put up by the maker / designer???
