Thanks :D Im pretty happy with it, and they'll only get better.

Im hoping I can run these with my two bilge pumps at 2200gph total...but we'll see. Might have to get the proper pump to fully utilise them.

I just took the feeder and extruder apart and cleaned em out and have started the next print (Talon) and its looking good.

How big is your printer ?

I need a casting pattern printed up so I can cast two bits for a mates 1908 vintage car .

Can you do 175 X 175 X 100 mm ?

Re the mats .... I used to carve up my own designs from HDPE using a router but these 3D printers are opening up infinite opportunities in engineering .

Mind boggling potentials 8)

Theoretically the print area is 200 200 180mm, but in reality it is slighty less. The largest I could do is a 190 200 180...so pretty close I suppose. But yeah I could do that size part you mention no worries.

Definitely less labour intensive than the router once its dialed in. But still in the early stages so far but with the next few years its really going to open up in terms of materials you can print with and what you can do with a fairly cheap 3D printer. Exciting times ahead thats for sure.

Hi Pot of Gold

I like the look of the mat
My sluice has a modified bread crate with ribbed rubber mat underneith
Last time i was out using the sluice i am sure i blew out a fair amount of gold as the water in the creek was really flowing & all i got was the chunks of gold that were too heavy to wash out
I am thinking of redesigning the sluice & maybe adding a new type of riffle
I live in Kilsyth & would be interested to come & see the gold hog mat if possible

Regards

Dirty Harry

If you want to come and look at them so you can decide if you want to buy the real thing, then Id be happy for you to pop round for a look. If you might be hoping I can print some out for you, then Id just have to say sorry and that I cant do that for you.

Im happy to do these for myself, but I think if I start doing them for other people, whether its for profit or not, its most certainly over stepping the line.

But if these work out for me then for just double the price of the actual mats (if you were to buy three lengths (1 of each design ive copied)) you could buy your own printer and make some of your own, and a myriad of other things too.

Are you going to be selling these mats, and if so how much will they be compared to hog mats?

Well done mate, you could always get a 3700 bilge pump, they are around $70 on ebay.

Hmmm maybe that'll be a goer. I do like running with the bilge pumps because of the quietness they afford. But depends on how many amps it draws. The small ones only draw 3 amps each so i can get 14 hours out of the 3 small batteries i have. I have a feeling the 3600gph will be 10-12amps, in which case I might only get half the run time which makes it a little impracrical for a camping trip. I will investigate though.

Yikes thats way more than I was thinking. So yeah, might not be an option since I'd probably have to get more batteries. Im not keen on buying more batteries as well as not keen on having more batteries to lug around. Hmmm...

Yeah people have suggested deep cycle but they are super expensive.

The next one is done :) See the pics below. This one turned out better since I didnt have any extrusion troubles. You can compare it to the first one below and can clearly see how much better it is. Still printed in normal quality though so could still get better.

I'll do a downdraft next.

Also, Im going to try to connect these pieces up so they're one solid mat. I'll first try and use ABS slurry (acetone with scrap ABS dissolved in it)...hopefully this will essential weld them together and I'll be left with a nice strong solid piece.

Here the latest one

They look so good....you've done an excellent job. Can't wait to see them working in the field in a high banker or sluice.

Its not surprising that people try to make their own with the price that goldhog charge for postage

i tried to buy mats a few years ago from them , the postage was equal to the cost of 3 mats , in other words the price doubles when you add postage.

I really should just bite the bullet and get a 4 stroke pump and just be done with it...
I thought I saw in one of your vids you had a 100ah or so deep cycle batt. If you have a decent length of cable you can just leave it in the vehicle and use the car to charge it up every so often.
