Hi guys,

I went out prospecting for the first time out in the bush and decided to give Collinsville a try.

I went past the coal mine and had a look in the bush land there and found a hole which looked to me like some sort of mining operation took place here earlier on.

A lot of trash around there and the detector (Infinium LS) went crazy at almost every swing but usually I only found iron or other metal but not gold. Also found bullet shells and barb wire.

A lot of coal around too.

I took photographs of the area. But cannot post links yet.

Anyone any suggestion what mining operation took place here ?

wikipaedia suggests that large scale coal mining has been taking place since 1912, after being discovered in 1866...so my guess is coal.

gold has been worked there since the 1880's mate discovered by Richard Daintree whilst exploring coal seams in the Bowen River. Mt Wyatt was the first gold mine area 1867 there are still deposits found today. check out this old map of alluvial deposits.
