Just wondering if anybody here has had any luck either sluicing or MD around Boonah?
Has a friend who has a 100+ achre property there and am thinking of spending at least a week out there over xmas this year once I have all my kit together.
I should also have a detector by that time (yayyy for tax money) so will do some nugget hunting as well, as the property is virgin material (at least in the last few decades)

Could also be looking for someone to come with me to teach me some tricks etc.

Hey BrisJoe,
I was hoping someone had posted some info for you, as I am a regular traveller to Boonah and have also thought the same thing. I do know a couple of people that live in Boonah and I will be asking them. I know of someone on a 400 acre property at Rathdowney complete with creek. I am new to this but am willing to share anything I learn along the way. It's all about the hunt.

I used to be out near Boonah at least a weekend in every month, dont know about gold but i reckon i know a good spot to check out, if you head down to moogerah Dam, you can drive right down belwo the dam wall if you park at the lowest point of that creek you can walk rightr through a huge bedrock cavern and if you make your way right around to the end of the slippers section (you'll see what i mean) theres a gravel bar down there that might be worth a look.

Take your rod with you as theres some nice size bass in there that will take on small spinners, its my favourite place to go for a walk in that kneck of the woods.

Yeah so much more of that section got washed away in 2013, across from the spill way section, if there was any gold hidden it would have been flushed out nicely. Good spot there for sure. Icey cold swimming

I have heard of small zircons being found there. How small I don't know.

Maybe we should get together and take a day out to explore the area. There maybe no gold but I'm sure there will be something of interest for the fossicker.

I'm in Ipswich.

Sounds good mate. There's a few creeks around the place. I havn't got a clue on what to look for, but have come across alot of the more remote areas i suspect you would look at while riding dirtbikes out here. Have also heard talk of gold about 40 mins to an hour from here around Rathdowney, and seen photo evidence of nuggets taken from private property a bit further inland

so to update this thread I was just out that way for a few days and did a little sample panning below the wall, i was only there 15 minutes when i noticed a tick on my dog so we moved on pretty quick but in the two test pans i did there were extremely fine garnet sands so i have no doubt garnets would be got if you flipped some big stones. i was amazed at the damaged that has been done since i was there last (2012) obviously 2013 was a big flood its stripped the hillside of all its overburden. I was a bit shocked that they have put up razor wire and a fence whereas before you could walk to the base.

anyway here some pics.
