Just wondering if anyone been there and is it good detecting area. Read up about it said there was good quartz reef there maybe quartz veins as well. Need to see sulphides bedrock and hopefully quartz viens. Thanks for the help

And for the long weekend labour day we should all meet up in the golden triangle somewhere if anyone keen. Jim and myself will come if anyone has a spot in mind. What date is labour day this year, who up for a swing.

General Amherst area is able to be detected, have pulled a few small nuggets from along Blacksmith Gully Rd and the tracks off there
The largest quartz outcrop (in the world??) is worth a look, not sure if you're allowed to prospect there though, you'll need to check.
CheersT.

Think ya may have cooked your goose with meet ups. An inconsiderate no show will probably make most less likely to give up time for you.
Do some research & good luck. Plenty to like about the Amherst/Talbot areas from a research point of view. Now you just need to get there & have a go!
I think you need to accept that finding gold is hard work physically & also can take a lot of hard work to prepare for trips - doing research, studying maps etc. etc.
No one is going to hold your hand & lead you to it!

I just want a little companionship~! Some things about me....i like long walks in forests, without a gps generally! I am willing to meet any time of day or night...if i am late, don't worry i will turn up. Not into timewasters!

In fact I was there but waited then went to Wedderburn instead then my friend and I went home after that.

..back to the topic. The quartz reef/blow is still there because it was a duffer. These things were all over the goldfields, had good gold and were generally hit up after all the easier alluvial was gone - Clunes is an example. It has been tested many times over the years for about a nil return. You will see attempts by the old timers to dig into it. They were not dumb - had a try and called it quits. I have seen VLFs, PIs etc all over it and never heard of any success. Save your time and pick - go elsewhere around Talbot Amherst but remember this - highly mineralised ground, the ground depth is all over the place and it can be very, very rewarding for good prospectors who know how to read the ground but a nightmare otherwise.

Thanks loamer I'll take that onboard and thanks for the advice hard to get on this forum. Might see you out on the fields soon I'm heading up there on Sunday.

LS, I was at Amherst last trip to Vic and spent about a week there. Everywhere you look it seems there could be gold in them thar hills, but I didn't find any. I tried in a number of places, Blacksmith gully, on the flat on the opposite side of the road, Picnic gully, Daisy hill, and a few other places, but really, I think its about looking outside the square. We all end up in the same spots detecting the same areas and we end up getting what everyone else gets...... zip. Yeh, I know, The Goldman, Phil daniels, I think from Coiltek will tell you that there has been a lot of gold come out of the area, but we all gravitate to the same spots. Try it by all means, but think outside the square and you could take home a really decent piece of gold.........I didn't, and I didn't. All the best TD

PS. And listen to Loamer. He knows heaps.

Actually advice is not hard to get - it just usually flows...but if you're honest with yourself you'll realise that you kicked off on the wrong foot. There's no free rides here. Humility will carry you a long way in this life.

Got those photo's that you promised so many times....?
