    Southern Tassie Gold

Hello Nexen, Looks like you are doing OK for down south. Not a great deal down there and mostly private land where it was found. If you get on the Tasmanian Prospecting forum you might meet some locals to share a few spots or a trip up north to some old mining areas. Also get on...

    Whites TDI Pro Oz mods

I picked up a 2nd hand TDI Pro Oz last year and like it very much. It works well with the 6X8 Nugget Finder and the 7 1/2 X 11 MJ but I can't seem to be able to get the gain above 5 without it getting too warbley. I have the pulse delay at 10 and the GEB in ALL when using it on gold. I was just...

Calgary, I'm heading over there. Any one been before?

Get on facebook and join "Gold Prospectors International" , a pretty good group of mostly Canadians from out that way. Somebody on there will steer you in the right direction. Good luck and check out the rodeo.

    Gold Processing

Hello Marksman, I have only melted gold a few times so I am a complete amateure but here is what I did. I ordered the little white silica cruce and graphite mold from China and waited a month for it to arrive. I used my blacksmith forge for heat and I laid some firebrick on the coke with a gap...

    smelting equipment

you can get it on ebay from China, free shipping (usually) , takes awhile to get it but seems like good stuff. Get borax from grocery / hardware store. Cheers

How to melt your own gold

I bought a crucible and graphite mold on ebay, free shipping from China for under $10. I use a coke fired forge to melt it, just build a box over it with fire brick. Borax is used in the laundry and can be found in grocery stores. Mix equal parts borax with gold by volume. Pour as soon as it...

    gold vials

The old timers used a lot of it to separate the fine gold out of their pans so I guess they lost a bit in the creeks. Actually it is kinda cool to find mercury that was swishing around a pan 100 plus years ago. It's usually full of gold when you find it as well. But it's very toxic and should be...

    gold vials

I made that mistake and covered my first detected specimen in mercury when I put it in my snuffer bottle and forgot it, then panned a patch with a bit around. Now I have an extra snuffer with MERCURY written across it.

    Whites SPP information and questions

Good luck with the new machine ozziii ! I just bought a 2nd hand Tdi Pro Oz so I am in the same boat as you, learning a new machine and my first PI. Coil choice seems to be a hot topic with these , you might check out the Razorback coils, they seem to be a good choice. I am still sifting through...

SDC 2300 vs gold bug 2

I have found some very tiny bits under birdshot size with the Goldmaster 2 in good ground but the red sandstone and ironstone we have here is very "hot" and makes the machine pretty useless. I have seen a few second hand GMT's sell for around $600, they would be a good buy if you pick the right...

SDC 2300 vs gold bug 2

I use a Goldmaster2 down here in Tassie and have come across a few places where the mineralisation is too much for it. From everything I have read and heard, there was never a lot of large nuggets found down here and I haven't seen very many over 2 or 3 grams found. If you are planning on paying...

    Today I BOUGHT

    Today I BOUGHT

Thanks, I have been reading and seeing a lot of good things about the TDI so I hope I can figure it out. There is a red sandstone down here that is giving me problems and a lot of patchy iron stone which the gold seems to hide in . Should be an interesting learning curve.

    Today I BOUGHT

Well I finally bit the bullet and (with a lot of sweet talk to the Mrs. ) bought a 2nd hand Whites TDI Pro Oz. It comes with some extras and I think I got a good deal. Now I just have to wait for it to get here. The hot rocks down here it Tassie have been giving my VLF machine hell so I hope I...

    HADSPEN is there gold ?

I have panned a bit of colour from the river in Hadspen but just a few specks. I definitely would not bother going again. If you are in Devonport you might check out the river just west of Paloona, alluvial gold was evidently found there. I haven't been there but am curious. Good luck

Who said there's no detectable gold in Tasmania?

Was the only place I could think of with tin and gold in central Tas. I know a fellow that used to work in the Storeys Creek mine and said they used to get stones and crystals of all shapes and colours and they used to ship them off to universities and such. There should be some sapphires up...

Who said there's no detectable gold in Tasmania?

Would love to go and check that area out for you ! I would even send you some pretty blue stones in exchange for the mudmap . It must be around Rossarden or Story's Creek area, you need to know how to play a banjo to go up there ! LOL
