    Hunting with the Simplex

First day out with the new Simplex... quick flick with some old and new coins on the driveway had me settle on Field Mode as a start. First impressions are it will be a great relic detector, all targets, some of which were quite deep, sounded off really well. Deep iron had the TDI numbers going...

Nokta Fors Relic - My Findings

I was given the opportunity of trying a Fors Relic for myself recently by Nenad of Phase Technical who are selling the Nokta brand here in Australia. I had the machine for 3 weeks, though sadly it was a period of quite heavy rain and I didn't want to get a borrowed machine wet and muddy, so my...

    Advice on stones

One of our family friends has land in Scarsdale and we were around there over the weekend to catch Yabbies with all the kids for Fathers Day, anyhoo I noticed on the edge of their dam there was a big chunk of quartz poking out of the ground which had been exposed from digging out their dam. The...

Nokta Fors Gold/CoRe - My Findings

I would like to share some of the things I have found with my Nokta Fors Gold so that others might decide for themselves wether they believe this detector can do a job for them. This machine and the CoRe are pretty much one and the same machine, the CoRe has the COG mode for use at the beach...

Determine find location by appearance of nugget

I met a guy today who told me it is possible to look at a nugget and tell by its appearance roughly where it came from... is that true?

More weird finds from the Goldfields

The hand thing is a weird find, it's either the world's most bizarre little fishing reel or some sort of mechanical hand off something? Nice big heavy buckle and what looks like a drawer handle. Site of a 1888 penny, the Irish half buckle from previous post. C

    Key Thing

Anyone know what this is? Found with the 1861 Token, thought it was a key for a clock or something but it has a hole in the end like a needle? Any ideas? C

    Silver Half Penny

Ok guys I know knickers about coins, but aren't the half pennies meant to be coppers? i.e.bronze? Why is this one silver covered? Hope it's not a stupid question but I've only found bronze coloured pennies etc before C

    Speculating on dated coin finds

It's human nature to let your imagination run riot when you find a coin and start wondering about who might have dropped it. I had a funny experience in the mid-80's when I was working as a guitar roadie for a Scottish band that were touring Germany at the time. We arrived in Frankfurt quite...

    Bucket List find Rising Sun

As a collector of military medals and badges I was more than chuffed when I saw this little cracker come out of the earth, :) Quite a mixed bag found within 30mins, will be going back to that spot me thinks.

    Warranted Superior Saw Button

Here is an interesting item I found with the Nokta Fors Gold. It's a button/medallion that was put on the handle of early handsaws, dates around the 1860's. Some more info. and similar again C

    Minelab GPX series relic hunting

I really want to make use of my GPX4500 in finding coins and relics as well as searching for gold. I reckon used in tandem with the Nokta Fors Gold it has the potential to give me some of those deeper items that the Fors will miss. As a start here is the video I mentioned in another thread on...

    Future of Coin Shooting

The first obvious point to make is that people don't carry coins the way they used to, for me unless I need some cash for something to do with the kids then it's all plastic these days and I guess most are in the same boat. Detectors are getting funkier and more efficient and going the way of...

    E.De Carle token 1855

Found one of these today, pretty cruddy so giving it a wee soak in olive oil and gentle working the crud off. Will show photos when it's done. Here's a link to a clean one. http://collections.museumvictoria.com.au/items/59587 C

    So Sad..

How much garbage gets dumped on what are an important part of an areas history... went for a drive come snoop around the back of Smythesdale Vic... man the amount of rubbish people flytip all over the historical diggings, and it seems the same in other places too. :(
